The UK-market Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e 4MATIC combines a petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system rated at 313 hp, and Mercedes-Benz lists up to 75 miles of WLTP electric range. Its headline figures look promising, but they are manufacturer specifications—not independent road-test results. The available information also does not identify a “fully loaded” trim, options list, price or specific test car, so this is a specification-led review rather than a verdict on a particular vehicle.
What is the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e?
The GLC 300 e 4MATIC is a petrol plug-in hybrid SUV in the UK GLC range. Mercedes-Benz UK lists a 150 kW (204 hp) combustion engine and a 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor, with a combined system output of 230 kW (313 hp) and 550 Nm of system torque. The company quotes 0–62 mph in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph; these are manufacturer figures, not independently measured results. Mercedes-Benz UK’s GLC specifications may vary by model year, market and configuration.
The word “fully loaded” cannot be confirmed from those model-level specifications. They do not establish the trim, fitted options or on-the-road price of a particular example.
How far can the GLC 300 e go on electric power?
Mercedes-Benz UK lists 75 miles of WLTP electric range and 77 miles of equivalent all-electric range (EAER). These are official test-cycle measures, not a guarantee of the distance a driver will cover in everyday use. Mercedes-Benz says range varies with driving characteristics, route profile and environmental conditions; speed, temperature, charge state, and heating or air-conditioning use can also affect it. Mercedes-Benz UK’s plug-in hybrid guidance explains that real-world range varies.

A useful personal benchmark is whether the certified electric range comfortably covers your routine journeys, while allowing for conditions that can reduce it.
How long does charging take?
Mercedes-Benz UK lists a usable battery capacity of 25.28 kWh, maximum AC charging of 11 kW and maximum DC charging of 60 kW. Its stated charging windows are 0–100% in 2.75 hours on AC at a wallbox or public charging station, and 10–80% in 29 minutes on DC. These are manufacturer charging data, not guaranteed times for every charging session; actual results depend on conditions and the equipment available.

The figures are for the current UK model page. Mercedes-Benz Group’s technical article on the fourth-generation GLC, published on 6 September 2022, describes a 31.2 kWh total battery capacity and an optional 60 kW DC charger capable of charging a fully discharged battery in around 30 minutes. Total and usable battery capacities are different measures, and that earlier group-level description should not replace the current UK specifications. The article says: “The high-voltage battery is an in-house development by Mercedes-Benz.” Mercedes-Benz Group’s technical article is a corporate source, not an independent assessment.
Is a home charger worth it?
A home charger can make it easier to start regular journeys with charge in the battery, which is central to using a plug-in hybrid as an electric car for suitable trips. Mercedes-Benz recommends a domestic wallbox when the property allows. It also says the car can be charged from a standard three-pin domestic socket, but the socket must be inspected and signed off by a qualified electrician. Do not use an EV three-pin charging cable with an extension cord. Public charging is another option; MB.CHARGE Public offers access to a large European network, although coverage and service terms can change. Mercedes-Benz UK’s charging guidance covers these options.

A wallbox is not automatically included or suitable for every home; installation may require electrical work. Before choosing a home EV charger, check that its connector, electrical supply and installation arrangements suit the vehicle and property. If charging at home or work is impractical, consider how often public charging fits your routes and routine before deciding whether a PHEV is the right format.
How practical is the GLC 300 e?
Mercedes-Benz UK lists 470 litres of boot capacity for the GLC 300 e, compared with 620 litres for the mild-hybrid GLC 300 4MATIC on the same page. That is a 150-litre difference in the published figures, relevant to buyers comparing luggage needs. The specifications do not explain the reason for the difference.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do the fuel and electricity figures mean?
Mercedes-Benz UK lists weighted combined fuel consumption of 128.5 mpg and combined electrical consumption of 18.2 kWh/100 km. These are official test-cycle metrics, not a promise of real-world fuel economy. A plug-in hybrid’s petrol use depends in part on how it is driven and charged; the listed fuel figure should not be read as an independent measurement or as a prediction for a car driven without regular charging.

How does it compare with other GLC versions?
The same Mercedes-Benz UK specifications page provides useful reference points for the mild-hybrid GLC 300 and diesel plug-in hybrid GLC 300 de. The table below reports the supported comparisons; figures are manufacturer-listed, not independent test results. See the UK GLC specifications for the model data.
| Model | Powertrain / system output | Electric range | Weighted combined fuel consumption | Boot capacity | Towing capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GLC 300 e 4MATIC | Petrol PHEV; 313 hp | 75 miles WLTP; 77 miles EAER | 128.5 mpg | 470 litres | 2,000 kg braked (at 12% gradient) |

| GLC 300 de 4MATIC | Diesel PHEV; figures not stated here | Not stated here | Not stated here | Not stated here | Not stated here |
The available figures do not support a complete specification comparison with the GLC 300 de. The choice between petrol and diesel, plug-in and mild-hybrid powertrains, and different GLC versions depends on driving pattern, charging access, luggage and towing needs, and current market-specific purchase, lease and tax costs. Verify those costs and the exact vehicle specification before comparing offers.
What this review can—and cannot—tell you
The published UK specifications establish the GLC 300 e’s stated power, test-cycle range and consumption, charging data and listed capacities. They do not establish independent road-test impressions, observed economy or range, ride quality, handling, cabin experience, or the equipment and price of a fully loaded example. No driving verdict on a particular car should be inferred from the manufacturer figures alone.
