The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² is a factory-built, off-road-focused G-Class variant with portal axles—not just a standard G 63 with a special appearance package. Its hardware gives it a different purpose from the already powerful road-going G 63, but the available price figures need careful interpretation: a 2024 listing-site average is not an official MSRP or a record of completed sales.
What makes the G 63 4×4² different?
The key distinction is its portal-axle configuration, which sets the 4×4² apart from the standard G 63. MotorTrend’s October 2022 first drive describes the model as a returning portal-axle G-Wagen and positions it as a more specialized, more expensive take on the conventional G-Class: MotorTrend’s 2023 Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² first drive.
The broader G-Class platform brings permanent four-wheel drive, low range and three lockable differentials. Mercedes-Benz’s current U.S. AMG G-Class page also describes adaptive AMG suspension and OFFROAD COCKPIT information, including a Transparent Hood view. Those are platform-level descriptions; they should not be mistaken for a complete 4×4²-specific specification sheet. Mercedes-Benz warns that off-road driving requires skill and familiarity with the vehicle’s limits, and directs drivers to read the operator’s manual before attempting it: Mercedes-Benz AMG G-Class.
G63 4×4 Squared price: what the figures mean
There is no single price figure here that answers both what a new standard G 63 cost and what a used 4×4² might be listed for. The figures below describe different vehicles and different kinds of pricing evidence.

Because the first figure is for a new 2025 standard G 63 and the second is a displayed average asking price for 2024 4×4² listings, comparing them as equivalent prices would be misleading. A current, reliable transaction range for clean-title 4×4² examples by mileage and condition is not established by these sources.
G63 4×4 Squared specs: what is confirmed?
Mercedes-Benz’s December 4, 2024 U.S. quick reference guide provides detailed specifications for the 2025 standard AMG G 63, not for the 4×4². The distinction matters: the figures below describe the standard model and should not be presented as confirmed 4×4² specifications.

G63 4×4 Squared review: capability versus everyday use
The 4×4²’s defining appeal is its off-road-oriented hardware. But a purpose-built high-clearance G-Class is not automatically the better choice for every owner or every route. The available road-test commentary below concerns the standard G 63 or G-Class context, not a dedicated instrumented test of the 4×4².

On-road performance
Car and Driver recorded 3.9 seconds from 0–60 mph in its instrumented test of a standard G 63. That is a test result for the standard model, not a verified 4×4² acceleration time. The publication also describes the G-Class’s boxy shape and cargo compromises in its standard G 63 review.
Mercedes-Benz gives a different figure for the 2025 standard G 63: an estimated 4.2-second 0–60 mph time. One is a publication’s test result for its standard-G 63 test vehicle; the other is the manufacturer’s estimate for the 2025 standard model. Neither establishes a 4×4² result.

Fuel use, cargo and road manners
In the standard G 63 context, Cars.com flags poor fuel economy, side-wind instability, high price and the side-hinged rear door as drawbacks. Car and Driver reports 38 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and nearly 69 cubic feet with them folded, along with a 7,000-pound maximum towing capacity. Car and Driver’s 16-mpg result came from its 75-mph highway fuel-economy test of the standard G 63. These are not verified 4×4² measurements. Who the 4×4² suits
The 4×4² makes the most sense for a buyer who specifically values its portal-axle, off-road-oriented character and is prepared for the compromises and expense of an unusually specialized G-Class. A buyer mainly seeking fast luxury-SUV road performance should compare intended use and verified model-specific data rather than assume that the 4×4² is simply a faster or more capable standard G 63 in every setting. The sources here do not establish a directly comparable test against luxury performance-SUV rivals.
