Mercedes-AMG’s next GT Black Series is confirmed to be in development alongside a future GT3 racer, according to March 2026 reporting. AMG calls the road car its most extreme Black Series yet, but has not published its final engine specification, power figures, performance numbers, price or release date. The prototype’s pronounced aero and its higher ride height than the racer point to track focus without making the two cars identical.
What Mercedes-AMG has confirmed
Autocar reported on March 25, 2026, that Mercedes-AMG is bringing back the GT Black Series and developing the road car in parallel with a future GT3 customer race car. The report attributes the description “the most extreme Black Series ever” to AMG. That is the company’s positioning, not an independently measured comparison. Autocar’s report, syndicated by Yahoo Autos, is the available source for the announcement; its page was not accessible when checked, so the statement is reported rather than verified here against a primary AMG release.
How the road car relates to the GT3 racer
Both programs are reported to draw on the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT. Developing a road car alongside a race car can connect their engineering and design direction, but it does not establish that they share identical parts, settings or specifications. The GT3 is a customer competition car; the Black Series is a road car, and its prototype already shows a distinction in ride height.

These observations come from a CarBuzz report reproduced by MidEngineCorvetteForum. Prototype imagery can show intended design and testing direction, but it cannot settle production appearance or equipment.

What is known about the engine—and what is not
Autocar expects an updated flat-plane-crank V8 related to an engine planned for a limited-production Mythos model. That is a reported expectation, not a confirmed Black Series powertrain specification. The available reporting does not establish the new car’s output, torque, transmission, acceleration, top speed or whether the prototype’s apparent lightweight glazing will reach production.
The previous GT Black Series is useful only as historical context. Autocar’s 2026 report gives the 2020 model 720 bhp and 590 lb-ft, a claimed 0–62 mph time of around 3.2 seconds and a 202 mph top speed. None of those numbers should be read as specifications for the forthcoming car.

The GT 63 and GT 63 Pro figures are reference points for other GT models, not stand-ins for the new Black Series. All figures in this table are those reported by Autocar in 2026; the new Black Series has no published figures in the reporting cited here.

The previous GT Black Series arrived in 2020. In the March 2026 report, the latest-generation GT had been on sale since model year 2024; neither date establishes when the new Black Series will reach customers.
