Mercedes-AMG’s forthcoming CLE 63 coupe has been reported testing with the company’s M177 Evo V8, but the roughly 600-hp figure is an estimate—not a confirmed production rating. Spy-shot coverage published by evo on June 23, 2026, describes a prototype and its visible styling details; it does not establish final specifications. A separate, limited CLE 646 reported later has a higher stated output, but that number does not belong to the regular CLE 63.
What the CLE 63 spy shots show—and what they do not
The June 23, 2026 report describes a test mule for an upcoming Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 coupe ahead of its official reveal. It reports that Mercedes confirmed the model would use the M177 Evo V8: a 4.0-litre twin-turbo engine with a flat-plane crankshaft, according to evo. The images and report concern a prototype; they do not establish the production car’s final design or specifications.
The report’s headline refers to snow, but the available coverage does not independently verify the testing conditions. The snow detail should therefore be understood as part of the underlying spy-photo report, not as a separately confirmed test fact.
Why the 600-hp figure is an estimate
evo points to the 604bhp output of the GLE 63 and GLS 63 SUVs as a comparison, then expects a similar figure for the CLE 63. That is an outlet estimate, not an official CLE 63 rating. The prototype coverage provides no confirmed output for the coupe, so 600 hp is best read as a rounded expectation rather than a production specification.

There is a more powerful number attached to another CLE, but it refers to a different model. In a September 10, 2026 report, evo gives the limited Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung a stated 636bhp and 627lb ft, with production limited to 30 cars. Those figures are for the CLE 646, not the regular CLE 63. The report says the limited car’s development will inform a future CLE 63, while cautioning that the broader-ordering coupe should not be expected to deliver the full 636bhp.

Prototype details reported in the photos
evo describes a Panamericana grille, aggressive front intakes, revised front and rear bumpers, trapezoidal exhaust tips and a subtle boot spoiler on the photographed mule. These are observations attributed to the test car, not a definitive list of production equipment or styling.

Where the CLE 63 fits in the AMG range
The CLE combines the two-door C-Class and E-Class ranges, according to the June report. evo presents the CLE 63 as a future range-topper and a rival to the BMW M4 and Audi A5. Until Mercedes-AMG publishes production details, the clearest distinction is between the V8-equipped CLE 63 prototype described in the June coverage and the separate, 30-car CLE 646 reported in September.
