How should you read C63 model-year dates?
“W204,” “W205,” and “W206” identify chassis generations; a model year identifies how a particular market classified a vehicle; and a production year identifies when a vehicle was built. Those labels are related, but they are not interchangeable.
The C55 AMG is a clear example of the problem. The cited Mercedes-Benz Club of America chronology says production ended in 2007, while cars built in 2007 were registered as 2006 model-year examples. The same distinction matters when a buyer compares an imported C63 with a U.S.-market car. Use the VIN, build date, market specification, and original paperwork to confirm an individual car’s exact model year.
