The sources cover different dates and scopes, however, so they do not establish one complete specification for every vehicle currently offered.
Audi’s earlier description details how armor materials overlap at transition points, where different sections of a protective structure meet. How armored is the Audi A8 L Security?
The answer depends on which Audi publication and vehicle configuration is being discussed. Audi Egypt’s regional Security page describes the long-wheelbase security vehicle as VR 10 for the body and VR 9 for the glass. That is Audi Egypt’s published description; the page does not reproduce a full certification document or establish a globally applicable rating.

In an earlier release about a specific A8 L Security, Audi said the vehicle was officially certified by Germany’s ballistic testing authority in Munich to BRV 2009 VR 7. The same release said some areas corresponded to VR 9 and VR 10 criteria and cited explosion testing under ERV 2010. These are generation-specific historical statements, not a replacement for the later regional body-and-glass description.
Because the publications differ in date, wording and scope, they should not be combined into a single rating. A protection class also does not, by itself, describe every threat or guarantee a particular outcome in a real incident. For an individual car, ask Audi for the certification and specification applicable to its exact configuration.

What the earlier safety cell included
Audi’s historical release describes a protective structure using hot-formed armored steel, aramid fabric, ceramic material, a special aluminum alloy and multilayer glass. Protective materials were said to overlap at transition areas. The release also mentions ballistic profiles in the aluminum side sills and an armored floor made from a special aluminum alloy. These details apply to the earlier vehicle described in that release unless confirmed in documentation for a current build.
What engine does the Audi A8 L Security have?
In Audi AG’s 2021 announcement of the enhanced A8, the A8 L Security was specified with a 420 kW (571 PS) biturbo V8 and 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. This is a dated Audi specification, not confirmation that every current regional vehicle has the same powertrain. Audi’s announcement does not provide a complete current Security build sheet.

The cited material does not establish a Security-specific acceleration time, top speed, curb weight or fuel-consumption figure. Standard A8 figures should not be treated as verified figures for the armored Security model.
Which specialist safety systems are described?
For the earlier vehicle, Audi listed an intercom as standard and described several other systems as optional. The distinction matters: those options are not evidence that the same equipment is standard—or even currently available—on every A8 L Security.

Before treating an advertised vehicle as matching a particular protection requirement, ask for documentation that identifies its body and glazing ratings separately, the named test standard and edition, the vehicle generation, and the equipment fitted to that individual car. Audi’s regional Security page is a starting point for an inquiry, not a substitute for a vehicle-specific build sheet.
How to compare protection claims responsibly
For any comparison with another armored sedan, use like-for-like documentation rather than a single headline rating. Check:
- The exact protection standard and test edition named in the document.
- Body and glazing ratings separately, including the vehicle and market the claim covers.
- The publication date and generation, so older claims are not presented as current specifications.
- Which specialist systems are standard, optional or not specified for the vehicle being considered.
- The market and date attached to powertrain and availability information.
