Mecum’s Kissimmee auction brought in $217 million from January 6–16, 2022, setting a single-event collector-car auction record at the time. MotorTrend reported 2,954 vehicles sold and a 90% sell-through rate. The result was described as the first collector-car auction to pass $200 million in sales for one event; available figures here do not establish its current all-time ranking.

What made Kissimmee 2022 a record-setting auction?

The event ran for 11 days at Osceola Heritage Park in Florida. MotorTrend reported $217 million in sales, surpassing the previous single-auction record of $176 million. That made Kissimmee 2022 the first collector-car auction reported to exceed $200 million in sales for a single event. MotorTrend’s January 18, 2022 report described the result as a record at the time.

The distinction is about the total for one auction event. Mecum separately reported a combined $239 million in January 2022 from the Kissimmee car auction and its Las Vegas motorcycle auction; that monthly figure is not the Kissimmee car-auction total. Mecum’s release, republished by Cycle News, gives the event and combined-month figures.

How many cars sold, and what was the busiest day?

MotorTrend reported 2,954 vehicles sold, with a 90% sell-through rate. It also reported that each of the 11 auction days set a Kissimmee record. Saturday, January 15, produced $72 million in sales, then the event’s highest single-day total. MotorTrend’s results coverage supplies these figures.

Which cars led the reported sales?

The 1965 Shelby GT350R Prototype topped the reported sales at $3.75 million. The McLaren Speedtail followed at $3.3 million, with a 1992 Ferrari F40 next at $2.75 million. These are reported sale prices, not estimates of what similar cars are worth today. MotorTrend’s auction report lists the leading results.

How was the auction covered on television?

MotorTrend TV and MotorTrend+ scheduled 24 hours of live coverage for the event. MotorTrend later reported that its Kissimmee 2022 coverage reached 6.3 million television viewers. Those are historical programming and audience figures, not confirmation of current streaming availability. In its January 27, 2022 announcement, MotorTrend Group president and general manager Alex Wellen said, “Mecum on MotorTrend is off to a sensational start,” describing the auctions as “captivating, lively events.” MotorTrend’s announcement reported the audience figure and quotation.
