The McLaren Solus GT is a single-seat, track-only hypercar developed from a concept for virtual racing and commissioned for 25 customers. It pairs a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 with extreme downforce, but it is not a road car. The published figures come from different sources and conditions, while the only recent price evidence here is one auction sale—not an official current price list.
What is the McLaren Solus GT?
McLaren says the Solus GT began as a radical virtual-racing concept before becoming a special commission for 25 customers. Its single seat sits centrally beneath a sliding glass canopy, and McLaren says the car does not adhere to road or racing regulations. That makes it a specialist track machine rather than a road-legal supercar or a conventional competition car. McLaren’s official Solus GT overview describes the concept and its unusual configuration.
McLaren Automotive’s Q3 2024 interim report said all 25 cars were under order and deliveries were underway at that reporting date. That is a dated production-status update, not a statement about current availability. McLaren Holdings Limited’s Q3 2024 report records the update.
McLaren Solus GT specs: what do the numbers say?
McLaren’s figures and Top Gear reviewer Jethro Bovingdon’s figures should be read separately: they use different units and descriptions, and the sources do not establish that all measurements share identical conditions.

The manufacturer specifications are on McLaren’s official model page. The review figures and the ram-air qualification are from Jethro Bovingdon’s Top Gear review, published June 25, 2024. Do not treat the two acceleration figures as the same test: one is 0–100 km/h and the other 0–60 mph.
What is the Solus GT like to drive?
In his June 25, 2024 review, Top Gear’s Jethro Bovingdon describes a driving position on the car’s centreline, a sliding canopy, a seven-speed sequential gearbox and an engine mounted directly to the carbon tub as part of the structure. Those are details from his account of driving a customer car, not an independent test by CarCody.

Bovingdon’s driving impressions are notably welcoming for a machine with such a demanding performance envelope: he reports precise steering, strong braking and a linear response from the naturally aspirated V10. He also describes the car as surprisingly accessible, while stressing that its enormous grip makes exploiting its fast-corner capability an exercise in commitment. His assessment is that the Solus’s speed and track focus require the right circuit, driver and specialist support; it is not an everyday-use proposition. Read Bovingdon’s full review at Top Gear.
How much does a McLaren Solus GT cost?
There is no general current Solus GT price established by the cited sources. One 2025 example, serial number 20 of 25, sold for $2,315,000 at RM Sotheby’s 2026 Monterey auction. The auction catalogue said extensive options pushed that car’s suggested retail price above $3 million. This is one sale and one optioned car; it is not a base MSRP, a current asking price or a market-wide valuation. RM Sotheby’s catalogue entry provides the sale details.

Is the McLaren Solus GT street legal?
No: the Solus GT is presented as a track-only car, and Top Gear calls it no kind of road car. The U.S. legal details in the auction catalogue apply specifically to its 2025 example: it was imported under a U.S. EPA Racing Vehicle Exclusion and could not be registered, licensed for, or operated on public roads or highways. That paperwork should not be generalized into a description of every car’s import status in every country. Top Gear’s review and the RM Sotheby’s listing describe the car and that specific vehicle’s status.
Where can you see McLaren Solus GT photos?
Top Gear’s review page includes a 17-image gallery credited to photographer Greg Pajo. RM Sotheby’s also provides images of its auction car, which has exposed carbon and green accents. The galleries show different presentations of the car; images appearing on a page do not grant permission to republish them. View Top Gear’s Solus GT gallery or RM Sotheby’s auction photographs.

Who is the Solus GT for?
The Solus GT makes most sense for a buyer seeking a rare McLaren-built track experience and collector provenance, rather than a car to register for the road or enter in an ordinary racing series. Bovingdon’s comparison with a prototype 2 car is useful if the priority is proven pace, racing eligibility and lower cost: in that context, he says the Solus does not compare favorably. He also identifies scarcity, McLaren identity and collector appeal as part of its proposition. Those are distinct priorities, not proof that the Solus is objectively good value.
For collectors, the auction catalogue also notes that its car came with a factory-issued scale model. That confirms an included model for that specific vehicle, but does not establish its scale, licensing details or the availability of a retail listing. The auction listing describes the item.
