Why generation dates can differ by market
“Generation years” may refer to a regional archive’s calendar-year chronology or to model years in a specific market. A calendar-year entry such as 2018 and a North American model year are different kinds of date labels. The launch release anchors the North American start at model year 2004; the European archive documents its own calendar-year history. The sources cited here do not establish every North American redesign or generation changeover, so a precise U.S./Canada generation-by-model-year table cannot be confirmed from them.
Is the Mazda3 still available as a sedan?
Yes. Mazda North American Operations’ release dated August 19, 2025 lists the Mazda3 for model year 2026 in both sedan and hatchback configurations. For that 2026 North American lineup, Mazda says front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is offered on select trims, a six-speed automatic is available, and a six-speed manual is available. What later updates are documented in Japan?
