Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Honda and Hyundai have all announced electric-vehicle plans relevant to India, but the announcements differ in certainty and detail. Maruti has named the e VITARA; Tata targets market introduction of an AVINYA-derived EV by 2027; Hyundai has outlined an unnamed A-segment SUV EV for the fourth quarter of 2026; and Honda says the Honda 0 α production model is scheduled to begin sales in 2027, mainly in Japan and India. These are company plans, not a complete set of confirmed Indian retail launch dates, prices or final specifications.
Which new electric cars are planned for India?
| Manufacturer | Vehicle or plan | Announced timing and milestone | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Suzuki | e VITARA | Showcase plan announced for Bharat Mobility Global Auto Show 2025 | Named as the company’s first eBorn SUV; the cited announcement does not establish a retail launch date, price or final India specifications. |
| Tata Motors | AVINYA-derived EV | Market introduction targeted by 2027 | The company’s concept page gives a target, not a day-specific launch date or final production specifications. |
| Hyundai | Unnamed A-segment SUV EV | India timing specified as the fourth quarter of 2026 | Hyundai’s roadmap names the segment and quarter, but not the vehicle. A new EV and an EREV are also listed for 2027 without model names in the cited roadmap. |
| Honda | Honda 0 α | Production-model sales scheduled to start in 2027 | Honda says the global sales plan is mainly focused on Japan and India. A separate, unnamed first-BEV statement gives a different fiscal-year timeframe. |
The announcements are not directly comparable on price, range or battery capacity: the cited company sources do not provide a common set of confirmed India-market figures for all four vehicles.

What has Maruti Suzuki announced about the e VITARA?
In January 2025, Maruti Suzuki said its electric-products journey begins with the e VITARA, described as its first eBorn SUV. The company also announced a plan to showcase it at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Show 2025 and discussed an EV ownership ecosystem that includes charging infrastructure. The announcement establishes the model name and showcase plan; it does not, by itself, confirm an Indian showroom launch date, price or final India-market specification set. Is Tata Avinya launching in 2027?
Tata Motors says on its AVINYA concept page that the EV “will be introduced to the market by 2027.” That is a company target for market introduction of a concept-derived vehicle; it is not a day-specific launch date, nor does it establish that final production specifications or price have been announced. See Tata Motors’ AVINYA concept page.

Which electric SUV is Hyundai planning for India?
Hyundai Motor India’s June 2026 announcement said it would roll out two new models from its Chennai facility, including its first mass-market dedicated EV “within this year.” Hyundai Motor Company’s August 2026 roadmap provided more specific timing for an all-new A-segment SUV EV for India: the fourth quarter of 2026. The roadmap does not name that SUV, so reported or speculative model names should not be treated as confirmed. It also lists a new EV and an EREV for 2027 without naming those India vehicles. Hyundai Motor India’s June 2026 announcement and Hyundai Motor Company’s August 2026 roadmap provide the two statements.
Hyundai’s broader global announcement says the company plans to launch or refresh over 100 models by 2030. That figure is a global roadmap count, not a tally of India electric cars.

When is Honda’s first electric car coming to India?
Honda has made two separate statements with different levels of detail. In October 2025, it identified the Honda 0 α as a next-generation electric SUV and said the production model was scheduled to go on sale globally, mainly in Japan and India, starting in 2027. Separately, Honda Cars India said in April 2026 that its first BEV was planned for the second half of that fiscal year, without naming the vehicle. The statements do not establish that the unnamed BEV is the Honda 0 α, and the fiscal-year timing should not be conflated with the 0 α’s 2027 sales plan. Honda’s Honda 0 α announcement and Honda Cars India’s April 2026 statement give the respective details.
How should buyers compare these announcements?
A vehicle name, a concept target and a sales schedule are different kinds of information. Before treating any plan as a purchase option, check what milestone the company actually announced and whether it has published India-specific retail details.

- Identify the status: Is the announcement about a concept, a prototype, a planned showcase, market introduction or scheduled sales?
- Check the level of identification: Maruti and Honda have named vehicles; Hyundai’s India SUV EV remains unnamed in the cited roadmap.
- Keep the timing attached to its milestone: Tata’s “by 2027” refers to market introduction, while Honda’s 2027 statement refers to the planned start of sales. Hyundai’s quarter is a roadmap timing for the unnamed A-segment SUV EV.
- Wait for India-market details: Compare confirmed price, range, battery capacity, charging capability, warranty and delivery timing only when each manufacturer publishes the relevant specifications.
For example, the available announcements do not support a reliable four-way range or battery comparison. Filling those gaps with estimates would make the table look more precise than the public company statements warrant.

Tata Motors says its EVs come with home chargers and identifies Tata Power as a partner for public charging infrastructure and home-charger installation.
