It is not the original Back to the Future truck, and the asking price is not a confirmed sale price.
What is the $70,000 Marty McFly Toyota?
It is a 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport dressed as a modern homage to the pickup from Back to the Future. Carscoops reported its $52,941 original price, $16,985 in upgrades and add-ons, and $70,725 asking price in 2026. That final figure is the reported asking price for this configured new truck—not a restoration bill, auction result, or evidence that it has sold. Carscoops’ report
Carscoops also compared the configured Tacoma’s price with starting prices for the Tacoma Trailhunter and TRD Pro. Those comparisons reflect the prices reported at the time of its article and can change; they do not make the trucks equivalent in equipment or purpose.
What modifications does the Tacoma have?
The reported build combines familiar tribute-truck styling with current Tacoma equipment. Its listed additions include:

What truck did Marty McFly drive?
Toyota’s UK brochure identifies Marty McFly’s dream truck as a “1985, jet black, 4×4 SR5 Xtracab Hilux.” That is Toyota’s official description in a UK-market brochure. In US-market listings, the corresponding pickup is named the Toyota Pickup XtraCab SR5 4×4, so “Hilux” is not the name used in every market. How does the new Tacoma compare with a restored classic?
A different 1985 Toyota Pickup XtraCab SR5 4×4, refurbished in Marty’s-truck style, sold on Bring a Trailer for $70,001 on March 13, 2026. That completed auction is a separate transaction for a separate vehicle, not the modern Tacoma. Its result and the Tacoma’s reported asking price are different kinds of figures, so they should not be read as a direct price comparison. Bring a Trailer auction record
The auction listing describes a vintage truck with a 2.4-liter fuel-injected 22R-E four-cylinder, five-speed manual transmission and solid axles. Its tribute details included black paint, tubular bumpers, a roll bar and KC lights; the listing also says it came with a glovebox signed by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The new Tacoma, by contrast, is a hybrid-powered current-generation truck. The choice is less about which is universally better than what matters to the buyer: a new vehicle with modern equipment, or an older truck’s period character and mechanical layout.

What can a Back to the Future clone restoration cost?
Greg’s Toyota Restorations, a specialist that builds and restores tribute pickups, says its builds start at about $50,000 plus the donor vehicle and can exceed $150,000 depending on the truck’s condition and the desired finish. Those are the shop’s posted figures, not a general market average or a quote for the Tacoma. Greg’s Toyota Restorations
The shop advises starting with the cleanest donor possible, with little to no rust. Its page lists representative restoration parts such as Smittybilt bumpers and roll bar, KC Daylighter lights, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires, 15-inch US Wheels, a custom bed mat and a custom-built 22RE engine. That parts list describes the shop’s restoration work; it is not a verified bill of materials for either the 2026 Tacoma or the Bring a Trailer truck. Greg’s Toyota Restorations
