Lyft Partnered With Mobileye—but Its AV Rollout Timeline Changed

Lyft and Mobileye announced an alliance in 2024. Lyft’s 2025 rollout language covered multiple partners, while its Mobileye-specific shuttle expectation pointed to late 2026.

Lyft and Mobileye announced a partnership in November 2024, but Lyft’s broad 2025 rollout language did not confirm that Mobileye-powered rides would launch that year. Lyft later said it expected high-capacity shuttles using Mobileye technology to begin deploying on its platform in late 2026, initially at U.S. airports and in cities. That was a plan stated in 2025—not confirmation of a completed launch.

What the Lyft–Mobileye partnership is

The companies announced a commercial alliance on November 6, 2024. Mobileye supplies autonomous-vehicle technology; vehicle manufacturers are expected to integrate it into AV-ready vehicles, which fleet operators would then acquire and operate. Lyft’s role is to connect those fleets with riders through its marketplace and autonomous-vehicle partner APIs. The announcement also described Mobileye cloud-based demand technology as part of the intended ecosystem. These are the planned roles and benefits, not evidence that the partnership has produced deployed rides. Lyft’s announcement and Mobileye’s announcement said the companies’ North American network reached 40 million annual riders in 2024; that is the companies’ dated figure.

When were Mobileye-powered Lyft rides expected?

Date What Lyft said What it establishes
November 6, 2024 Lyft and Mobileye announced their alliance. No Mobileye-specific service launch date was given.
March 20, 2025 Lyft said partner AV rollouts could start “as soon as this summer.” The statement grouped Mobileye with May Mobility and Marubeni; it did not confirm a Mobileye vehicle launch in 2025. Read Lyft’s dated statement.
Q2 2025 remarks Lyft expected high-capacity shuttles with integrated Mobileye technology to begin deploying in late 2026, initially at U.S. airports and in cities. This was a forward-looking expectation recorded in 2025, not a report that deployment occurred. Read Lyft’s Q2 2025 prepared remarks.

As of October 8, 2026, Lyft’s autonomous rides page says riders can request autonomous rides in select markets, but it does not identify Mobileye as their provider. The official materials reviewed do not verify that a Mobileye-powered service launched on Lyft. General AV availability on Lyft should not be treated as proof of this specific partnership’s deployment.

Why Lyft’s 2025 rollout language was not a Mobileye launch announcement

In March 2025, Lyft executive Jeremy Bird wrote that the company had signed agreements with partners “like May Mobility, Mobileye, and Marubeni” to start rolling out AVs “as soon as this summer.” The wording described an expected rollout across multiple partner relationships. It did not say that Mobileye-integrated vehicles would be among the vehicles launching that summer.

Lyft’s May Mobility track was more specific: May Mobility planned to deploy autonomous Toyota Sienna minivans directly to Lyft in Atlanta starting in 2025. That plan is separate from the Mobileye alliance. The later Mobileye-related expectation concerned high-capacity, purpose-built shuttles—not the May Mobility minivans.

How Lyft says it evaluates AV partners and manages operations

Safety and readiness

Lyft says its partner review considers safety culture and organizational commitment, AV system evaluation and readiness, operational readiness, and rider and public safety experience. Lyft also says every fully driverless vehicle on its platform must use redundant multimodal perception, with sensors such as cameras, radar, and LiDAR. These are Lyft’s stated platform requirements; they are not an independent safety rating or proof of any particular vehicle’s performance. Details are on Lyft’s autonomous rides page.

Fleet operations

Lyft’s Q2 2025 prepared remarks described planned Flexdrive fleet-management functions for AV operations, including monitoring vehicle location, status, and charge level; dispatching within battery range; and routing vehicles to charging or maintenance when demand is low. The remarks describe intended operating capabilities, not proof that a Mobileye-integrated shuttle fleet was already running.

Bottom line on the 2025 claim

Lyft did partner with Mobileye, but “introducing more autonomous vehicles in 2025” overstates what the announcements established about Mobileye. The March 2025 timeline covered several partners, while Lyft’s clearest Mobileye-specific timing was an expectation for late 2026. Lyft reports autonomous rides in select markets, but its current public page does not identify Mobileye as the provider.
