What happened on Bussell Highway
The West Australian reported that the crash occurred at about 3:43pm on a Friday in November 2020. A southbound blue Mitsubishi Lancer was struck by a Toyota Hilux travelling in the opposite direction; the Hilux also collided with a Volvo fuel tanker. The report’s account is contemporaneous news coverage, not an independently confirmed official record. The West Australian’s initial report described the incident.
People in the vehicles
- The Lancer’s 58-year-old driver and 51-year-old front passenger died at the scene.
- Three people in the Hilux were injured: its 54-year-old driver and male passengers aged 40 and 19. The 40-year-old passenger was flown to Royal Perth Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The driver and 19-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to Bunbury Hospital.
- The Volvo fuel tanker’s driver was not injured.
What was reported about the driver’s court appearance
A follow-up published on 22 November 2020 identified the Hilux driver as a 54-year-old man from Glen Iris. It reported that he had been accused of dangerous driving, two counts of occasioning death and one count of occasioning grievous bodily harm, and was due to appear at Perth Magistrates Court by video link that day. These were reported accusations, not findings of guilt. The follow-up did not state the eventual court outcome. The West Australian’s follow-up report covered the scheduled appearance.
What the 2020 report said about the road
The initial article described the Bussell Highway stretch between Capel and Busselton as undergoing roadworks, with the section expected to become a dual carriageway. It also called this the second fatal crash on that stretch in two weeks. Those descriptions refer to the report’s 2020 context; they do not establish present road conditions or a current crash statistic.
