The Lucid Gravity pairs three-row seating with long-range claims and, in one California first drive, impressed with its composure on steep, winding roads. That is a promising first impression, not proof that it makes no compromises: the drive was brief, and Lucid’s current specifications and prices apply to its 2027 U.S. lineup, not the launch-era model described in the 2025 report.
What the first drive can—and cannot—tell you
Abigail Bassett’s first-drive report, published April 15, 2025, describes an event route from Nipomo through Cuyama Highway and Tepusquet Road to Los Olivos, California. It was not a long-term ownership test or a controlled comparison with competing SUVs. The route and the vehicle she drove provide useful evidence about how the Gravity felt on challenging pavement, but not about everyday efficiency, reliability, or its performance against rivals in standardized tests. TechCrunch’s first-drive report is the source for those impressions.
For current shopping context, Lucid’s U.S. product page lists the Gravity as a 2027 model with three trims. Its current prices and specifications differ from the launch-era figures discussed in the 2025 report, and may vary with configuration. What are the current Gravity trims, prices, and ranges?
Lucid’s U.S. page lists starting prices and range figures for its 2027 lineup. Touring and Grand Touring ranges are EPA estimates; the GT-S figure is explicitly projected, not an EPA-estimated range.

These are manufacturer-listed U.S. figures reviewed October 8, 2026. Prices are starting prices; options, taxes, fees, and configuration can change the final cost or specifications. The 450-mile headline applies to the Grand Touring, not every Gravity. The GT-S range is labeled projected, so it should not be treated as an EPA rating.
How fast does the Gravity charge?
Lucid advertises up to 200 miles of fast-charging range in 11 minutes, but its current trim comparison makes clear that charging time is not identical across the lineup: it lists 15 minutes for Touring, under 11 minutes for Grand Touring, and 14 minutes for GT-S. These are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee of how much range a driver will add on a particular trip. Actual charging depends on conditions and the vehicle’s configuration.
The April 2025 report described Lucid’s approach to charging across 500-volt and 1000-volt architectures. Lucid senior vice president of powertrain Emad Dlala told TechCrunch that the company developed technology to enable charging through both a legacy 500-volt architecture and a future 1000-volt architecture. TechCrunch also reported figures of 225 kW on 500-volt charging and up to 400 kW on 1000-volt chargers at the time. Those reported figures should not be confused with a universal charging speed or the current page’s trim-specific time claims.

Can it carry seven people and their cargo?
Lucid advertises seating for up to seven adults and up to 120 cubic feet of cargo space, both configuration dependent. The company says the second and third rows fold flat. Those are manufacturer specifications, not an independent passenger-fit or cargo-volume comparison. Whether seven adults can travel comfortably will depend on their size, trip length, and the chosen configuration; the available evidence does not establish a standardized third-row comfort test.

Those dimensions make it worth checking garage, parking, and maneuvering constraints before buying, especially because the mirror-inclusive width is substantial. Lucid also lists a 0.24 drag coefficient, AWD, towing capacity up to 6,000 pounds, and 20- to 23-inch wheels; towing and other specifications depend on the vehicle configuration.

Bassett’s strongest driving impression was that the heavy three-row SUV felt settled and enjoyable on a steep, sharply winding one-lane road. She noted that the version with three rows weighed more than 6,000 pounds, yet found it composed in Smooth and Swift settings. The report credits adaptive dampers and air springs with absorbing rough undulations and helping the vehicle remain controlled through curves.

That account is specific to one journalist’s event drive and vehicle configuration. Rear-wheel steering was fitted when the vehicle had the Dynamic Package, so it should not be assumed on every Gravity. The report also describes one-pedal driving and a squared-off steering wheel Lucid calls a “squircal.”
The first drive mentions seven inches of ground clearance, which can rise above nine inches, and only light off-roading. Those details do not establish serious off-road capability. A raised ride height is not a substitute for evidence about traction, underbody protection, or performance in demanding terrain.
What driver assistance is available?
The 2025 report described Level 2 automated driving, which still requires driver attention, and framed Level 3 as Lucid’s future aim at that time. It also listed computing hardware and described DreamDrive 2 Pro as upcoming in 2025. Lucid’s current page describes DreamDrive 2 assistance but does not establish that Level 3 driving is available. Do not interpret future-facing statements as permission to take your attention off the road.
Does the Gravity make no compromises?
The first drive supports a narrower conclusion: despite its size and weight, this three-row EV impressed one reviewer on a difficult winding route, while Lucid’s current lineup offers distinct range, performance, price, and charging claims. It does not establish that the Gravity has no compromises. The evidence here does not provide independent current real-world range or charging results, a standardized seven-passenger comfort assessment, or a controlled comparison against the Rivian R1S, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, BMW X7, or Audi Q8. Those remain important questions for a buyer weighing a high-priced family SUV.
