A short Seattle-area drive of a Tesla Cybertruck drew stares, photos and sharply mixed opinions. In a March 2024 GeekWire feature, owner Javier Luraschi took reporter Kurt Schlosser on a roughly 10-minute trip from GeekWire’s Fremont office to Golden Gardens Park. The account captures one local outing and several individual reactions—not a survey of Seattle opinion or a comprehensive vehicle test.
Why did the Cybertruck turn heads in Seattle?
Its angular, distinctly unconventional shape made the truck hard to miss. During the drive, Schlosser saw people staring, photographing and filming it. Luraschi said, “I’ve never had a product where it gets this many reactions from people.”

The people quoted in the story did not all respond the same way. Seattle resident River Belle called it “a weird pixelated car, like something glitched out in the rendering.” Collin Mason described a more conflicted reaction: “The look is so different than anything I’ve seen that I almost don’t like it. But I also like it a lot.” Those comments illustrate the encounters GeekWire recorded; they do not establish how Seattle residents generally feel.
What was the Cybertruck like to drive?
Schlosser’s impressions came from a brief drive, not standardized testing. He singled out the acceleration as a highlight and found it interesting to raise the suspension from sport mode to off-road height using the touchscreen.

Some parts of the experience took adjustment. Schlosser initially had trouble opening the doors and locating the turn signals, and he found the regenerative braking difficult to get used to. He also felt a Seattle pothole about as sharply as one in his Jeep. These are his impressions from that trip, not measured comparisons.
How did the owner describe using it?
Luraschi called the truck a “computer on wheels.” He said he was interested in driving it on unpaved roads near his co-founder brother’s home in Monroe, Washington, and hoped it could tow a sailboat in the future. Those remarks describe his interests and aspirations; the Seattle story does not independently verify those capabilities.

Schlosser also described part of the appeal as “the charge of being stared at by everybody else on the road.” In this account, attention was not a side detail: it was a defining feature of taking the conspicuous truck through the city.
What did the Cybertruck cost in the 2024 account?
GeekWire reported that Luraschi had waited more than 3½ years after putting down a $100 reservation. The truck had initially been announced at $40,000, while the delivered vehicle in the March 2024 story carried a $100,000 price tag. These are historical details about that account, not current prices or a 2026 price guide.

Consumer Reports reported a separate 2024 purchase: a Dual-Motor AWD Foundation Series bought for $101,985. Its road-test score landed a few points below the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning. That independent test and purchase price concern a different vehicle and should not be conflated with Luraschi’s truck or the short Seattle drive.
