Lotus has opened mainland European orders for the Eletre X, a range-extending hybrid SUV it says can deliver up to 952 PS—about 939 mechanical horsepower—and travel more than 1,200 km on a charge and fuel under its target WLTP figures. The June 2, 2026 announcement marks a broadening of Lotus’s powertrain strategy, not proof that the company has abandoned electric vehicles.
What the Lotus Eletre X is—and what “939 hp” means
The Eletre X is Lotus’s first vehicle to use its proprietary X-Hybrid architecture. Lotus says the model is called For Me in China and Eletre X in Europe. Its European announcement gave two versions, H550 and H1000, with mainland European starting prices of €96,990 and €119,990, respectively. Those prices exclude options, taxes and delivery charges and may be revised. Lotus’s order announcement said mainland European deliveries were expected from Q4 2026; UK deliveries were expected in summer 2027, subject to right-hand-drive homologation. Those were forecasts at announcement, not confirmation that deliveries have begun.
The headline’s 939 hp is a conversion of Lotus’s stated target of 952 PS: metric horsepower converts to about 939 mechanical horsepower. Lotus itself reports 952 PS, paired with 935 Nm of torque, rather than 939 hp. These are manufacturer claims, not independently verified test results.
How the Eletre X hybrid system works
Lotus describes X-Hybrid as a generator-led system. A 2.0-litre turbocharged engine drives a 150 kW onboard generator, which replenishes available energy while the vehicle is moving. Two permanent-magnet electric motors provide the stated output. Lotus says the system manages electric driving, onboard generation and hybrid assistance according to vehicle speed, battery charge and driver demand. That description is more specific than simply calling it a conventional parallel hybrid: the engine’s stated role is to generate energy, while electric motors deliver the claimed power to the wheels.
#1 Best Overall
The company presents the Eletre X as combining electric driving with onboard energy generation, rather than relying solely on plugging in for long-distance travel. The Lotus Eletre X product page also describes the engine as an onboard energy generator.
European range, charging and performance claims
Lotus’s European figures are target data and may change with final European homologation. The company explicitly cautions that they are not final figures. Its stated targets are:

- Length Model 220 mm
- Model number: 300020060
- The package dimension of the product is: 29"L x19"W x7"H
| Measure | Lotus-stated European target |
|---|---|
| Maximum power | Up to 952 PS |
| Maximum torque | 935 Nm |
| 0–100 km/h | 3.3 seconds |
| Electric-only range | Up to 350 km |
| Combined range | More than 1,200 km under WLTP |
| Battery | 70 kWh |
| Charging claim | About nine minutes from 20% to 80% on a 350 kW DC charger |
Lotus also says the H550 is up to 120 kg lighter than the fully electric Eletre 900. The release does not establish that this difference applies to every configuration or provide independent weighing data. All performance, range, charging and weight figures above are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results.
Why the China-market figures are different
Lotus launched the China-market For Me on March 29, 2026. In that launch material, the company claimed up to 420 km of pure-electric range and more than 1,400 km of combined range, alongside 952 PS and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds. These are China-market claims and should not be substituted for the European model’s target figures. The launch announcement does not label those range figures as European WLTP results. See Lotus’s For Me launch release.

What the Eletre X says about Lotus’s EV strategy
The Eletre X signals that Lotus is widening its powertrain offering beyond a strategy focused only on battery-electric vehicles. In its Focus 2030 announcement, Lotus described a multi-powertrain strategy and characterized X-Hybrid as combining internal-combustion and battery-electric expertise.
That shift does not establish that Lotus has stopped developing or selling EVs. It shows the company adding a hybrid approach to its product strategy. For a buyer weighing the idea, the useful questions are how much of everyday driving can be covered by the electric-only target, how the generator and refueling flexibility suit longer journeys, and whether the claimed performance remains available as battery charge falls. The announcement does not provide independent answers to those real-world questions.
