Lit Motors has announced a production plan for the C-1, its enclosed, self-balancing electric vehicle, but production has not been established as underway. A May 2025 report put the company’s initial-production target at 2029 and its goal at 300,000 vehicles a year by 2034. Lit Motors’ current timeline instead describes 2025–2026 as an X-1 prototype-development phase, so those dates should be read as targets—not a firm customer delivery schedule.
What Lit Motors announced
New Atlas reported on May 18, 2025, that Lit Motors had announced a nine-year production plan. The report gave two headline targets:
- 2029: targeted start of initial production.
- 2034: targeted annual output of 300,000 units.

Where development stands

The company’s retrospective timeline traces the concept to founder Daniel Kim’s idea for a two-wheeled vehicle suited to people who often travel alone. It says Lit developed a first gyro-stabilizer in 2009, a full-scale concept in 2011 and the EP-3 full-scale driving prototype in 2012; the timeline also identifies a developmental chassis in 2024. These are company-reported milestones, not independent confirmation of current production readiness.
Lit Motors names Ideenion as a manufacturing and prototype-development partner, with the relationship signed in 2023, and says later work involved vehicle architecture and component placement. The timeline also lists engineering hires with prior Honeywell Aerospace experience in 2025. These details are reported by the company.

Lit Motors describes the C-1, also called the AEV on its preorder page, as an enclosed, self-balancing electric vehicle. The company lists the following specifications and features; it says the final beta design is still being refined and that details may change. The figures are company claims, not independently validated test results in the cited material. In particular, the page does not explain the conditions behind its range, charge-time or per-charge-cost estimates. They should not be treated as guaranteed real-world performance for a production vehicle.

Price and what a reservation currently means
Lit Motors lists a projected MSRP of $32,000, explicitly subject to change. The company says buying its T-shirt and official reservation certificate makes a customer eligible to reserve a place in the queue 6–12 months before production. It estimates the T-shirt and certificate will arrive in 6–8 weeks. Configuration, financing and shipping options, it says, will be provided when the AEV is closer to production. This is a future queue opportunity, not immediate purchase or delivery of a C-1.

The cited company materials and 2025 production-plan report do not establish final specifications, regulatory certification, production readiness or a firm delivery date for customers. They also do not establish the C-1’s road-legal status or licensing requirements in any particular jurisdiction. A buyer considering a reservation should distinguish the company’s projected price and specifications from finalized terms for a certified, deliverable vehicle.
