That label and the car’s identity have not been confirmed by Lexus or Toyota. Since then, Toyota has officially announced the GR GT road car and GR GT3 race car, while Lexus has presented a separate electric LFA Concept. Those announcements provide context, but do not establish that any of the three is the exact car in the 2024 footage.
What was spotted at the Nürburgring?
In a report dated November 4, 2024, ClubLexus writer Brett Foote described a CarSpyMedia video of a purported Lexus LFR prototype lapping the Nürburgring. The report noted four exhaust tips and said the car’s sound might be consistent with a V8 and hybrid assistance. It also contrasted a more road-going-looking prototype with more aggressive bodywork the report associated with a possible GT3 racer. ClubLexus’s account presents those as observations and interpretations, not manufacturer-confirmed specifications.
Quad exhaust tips are a visible feature in the report, but they do not by themselves establish the car’s engine, hybrid system, intended use, or production name. The footage does not verify that the vehicle was a Lexus retail model or a homologation prototype.
What Toyota and Lexus have officially announced
On December 5, 2025, Toyota Motor Corporation announced the GR GT, GR GT3, and Lexus LFA Concept. The names and roles in that announcement are distinct: the GR GT is a GR-brand flagship sports car, the GR GT3 is an FIA GT3-spec race car based on the GR GT, and the LFA Concept is an electric sports-car concept. Toyota’s announcement does not retroactively identify the car filmed in 2024 or confirm “LFR” as an official model name. Toyota’s world-premiere announcement sets out the three vehicles separately.

GR GT figures are development targets, not LFR specifications
Toyota’s technical release describes the GR GT prototype as a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive hybrid pairing a newly developed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a single electric motor integrated into the rear transaxle. It also specifies dry-sump engine lubrication, an all-aluminum body frame, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. These details apply to the GR GT prototype—not to a vehicle officially identified as an LFR. Toyota’s GR GT technical information gives the following in-house development figures:
- System output: 650 PS or greater, a development target.
- System torque: 850 Nm or greater, a development target.
- Top speed: 320 km/h or greater, a target for the GR GT prototype.
- Weight distribution: 45:55 front to rear, as stated for the prototype.
These are manufacturer-published prototype figures, not independently tested results or final production specifications; Toyota says details may change without notice. Toyota describes the GR GT3 as an FIA GT3-spec race car based on the GR GT and says it is preparing customer support for international GT3 competition. That establishes an official road-and-race development program, but it does not prove the 2024 sighting was one of those cars.

Is the Lexus LFR the new LFA?
The available official announcements do not establish that “LFR” is a successor name for the LFA, or that the car in the Nürburgring report is an LFA-related production model. Lexus’s LFA Concept is separately identified as a battery-electric sports-car concept, not the hybrid V8 GR GT.
Lexus Europe said the LFA Concept made an unannounced dynamic appearance on the Goodwood hill climb during the July 9–12, 2026 Festival of Speed, still wearing camouflage. That public run concerns the electric concept; it does not link the concept to the earlier V8-sounding prototype. Lexus Project General Manager Yukihiro Yukita said of the concept: “The Lexus LFA Concept will pursue delivery of a multi-sensory experience unique to Lexus and challenge the possibilities of what a battery electric sports car can be, unlike anything that has gone before.” Lexus Europe’s Goodwood release attributes that statement to the LFA Concept.

What remains unconfirmed about the reported LFR
The 2024 sighting report is not enough to establish an official LFR model, the prototype’s exact identity, its production configuration, or a retail launch date or price. No independently verified LFR performance statistic is established by the sources cited here. Toyota’s GR GT targets should not be transferred to the unidentified car simply because the spy report speculated about a V8 or hybrid assistance.
