Max Verstappen won his fourth Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship in 2024. In the FIA’s 2025 Australian Grand Prix media-kit snapshot, Lewis Hamilton led Verstappen in career titles, wins, pole positions and podiums—but had also started substantially more Grands Prix. These are dated 2025 figures, not verified totals through October 8, 2026.
Hamilton vs. Verstappen career stats
The following figures are from the FIA’s 2025 Australian Grand Prix media kit. They are a consistent, dated snapshot of both drivers’ records.
| Statistic | Lewis Hamilton | Max Verstappen |
|---|---|---|
| Drivers’ Championships | 7 | 4 |
| Grand Prix races | 356 | 209 |
| Wins | 105 | 63 |
| Pole positions | 104 | 40 |
| Podiums | 202 | 112 |
What “after four world titles” means
Verstappen’s fourth title was the 2024 Drivers’ Championship. His four championship years are 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024; Hamilton’s seven are 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Formula 1 defines the season’s World Champion as the driver with the most championship points at the end of the season. These are Drivers’ Championships, distinct from Constructors’ Championships. See Formula 1’s Drivers’ Championship guide.
How to read the comparison
Cumulative records favor Hamilton in this snapshot
Hamilton has more titles, wins, poles and podiums in the FIA figures. That answers who had accumulated the larger career totals by this snapshot; it does not, on its own, establish who is the greater driver.

The drivers had different numbers of race opportunities
The same media kit lists Hamilton with 356 Grand Prix races and Verstappen with 209. Raw totals combine achievement with the number of races in a driver’s career. Rates such as wins per start can address conversion across starts, but they answer a narrower question and still do not account for differences in cars, teammates, regulations or available race opportunities.
Cross-era comparisons need context
Drivers compete under different calendars and technical rules, and their teams’ competitive strength varies. Formula 1 has cautioned that comparisons across eras come with caveats; in a separate 2023 feature, it compared drivers after the same 185 race weekends and considered percentages as well as totals. That historical exercise is useful methodological context, not a replacement for the dated career totals above: Formula 1’s 2023 comparison.

Why these aren’t current 2026 totals
The table is specifically the FIA’s 2025 Australian Grand Prix snapshot. It should not be read as a complete comparison through October 8, 2026. Formula 1’s driver profiles provide career and season context, but the reviewed profile material does not supply a complete, paired current total for every statistic in the table. A current comparison needs all figures updated from one consistent official endpoint.
For additional season context, Verstappen’s official Formula 1 profile records 19 wins from 23 Grands Prix in 2023: Max Verstappen’s profile. Hamilton’s official profile is available at Lewis Hamilton’s profile.
