Lewis Hamilton chose Lionel Messi when asked to pick between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He praised both players, but said he was a Messi fan.
Who did Lewis Hamilton choose?
Hamilton chose Messi. SportBible reported his answer on September 26, 2024: “Messi or Ronaldo? Messi! They’re both amazing to be honest, but I’m a Messi fan in the end.” SportBible’s report was updated on November 21, 2024. A contemporaneous report by Digi Sport, also dated September 26, attributed its Romanian rendering of the quote to SportBible.
Why did Hamilton prefer Messi?
In the 2024 answer, Hamilton did not give a detailed explanation: he praised both footballers and said he was a Messi fan. In a separate Q&A posted by La Gazzetta Ferrari on November 13, 2025, Hamilton was quoted as saying, “I keep getting asked this question. What is known about the 2024 exchange?
The September 2024 reports establish Hamilton’s stated preference, but they do not identify a verified interview date or venue, or provide a primary-channel transcript. The quoted wording should therefore be understood as reported by SportBible, rather than as a quote verified against an original recording.
