The company’s reported plan is to make its entire lineup plug-in hybrid by 2030, but that is a target—not proof that Lamborghini has permanently ruled out a fully electric model.
What happened to Lamborghini’s EV plan?
The Lanzador debuted as an electric concept in 2023 and was developed as a prospective production car. Ars Technica reported on February 24, 2026, that Lamborghini canceled the production project at the end of 2025. The news marks a change from the company’s earlier roadmap, which had envisioned a fully electric fourth model.
In a statement to Ars Technica, Lamborghini said that after analysis and conversations with dealers and customers, it had concluded that the pace of pure battery-electric vehicle adoption had slowed considerably and demand remained limited in the luxury super-sports segment. The company described market readiness in that segment as not yet aligned with the transition. These are Lamborghini’s stated reasons, not independently measured findings about the wider car market or a published survey of its customers. Ars Technica’s February 24, 2026 report reproduces the company statement.
CEO Stephan Winkelmann told The Sunday Times, as quoted by Ars Technica, that investing heavily in full-EV development before the market and customer base are ready would be “an expensive hobby” and financially irresponsible to shareholders, customers, and employees. His comments explain the company’s investment decision; they do not establish that Lamborghini has abandoned electric vehicles permanently.

Why Lamborghini is prioritizing plug-in hybrids
A battery-electric vehicle (BEV) runs on electricity stored in a battery and has no combustion engine. A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) combines a rechargeable battery and electric motor with a combustion engine. Lamborghini’s revised near-term direction favors the latter, allowing the company to continue electrifying its cars without making its next planned step a pure EV.
The company reported a record 10,747 worldwide deliveries in 2025. Its results announcement identified the Revuelto and Urus SE among the models contributing to its electrification phase. The delivery total is company-reported context; it does not show that hybridization caused the record or independently demonstrate what customers think of EVs. What the reported 2030 hybrid plan means
Ars Technica reports that Lamborghini intends to have a fully plug-in-hybrid lineup by 2030. The models it names as hybrids are the Revuelto, Urus SE, and Temerario. Treat 2030 as a reported company plan, not a guaranteed delivery schedule; the report does not make every future model or timing detail a confirmed product announcement.
There is an important qualification to the pivot. Lamborghini’s 2025 results announcement said its fourth hybrid model supports the company’s long-term industrial vision “without compromising the future development of a fully electric model.” That language leaves future EV development open. The company has changed its product timing and immediate direction, but the available statements do not support saying it will never make an EV.

How this differs from Lamborghini’s earlier roadmap
In 2021, Lamborghini’s Direzione Cor Tauri strategy set out a staged electrification plan that envisioned a fully electric fourth model after the hybridization phase. The Lanzador concept previewed that intended direction. Canceling its production project therefore revises an earlier published roadmap rather than simply delaying a model that had never been part of the company’s plans.
