PerthNow reported at 11:20am on 22 March 2025 that a crash had occurred on the southbound Kwinana Freeway near the Manning Road exit in Salter Point. The southbound freeway was reduced to two lanes, and traffic was slow on approach. The report said Main Roads urged commuters to drive with caution. PerthNow’s incident report is the source for these details.
How many vehicles were involved, and who attended?
PerthNow reported that multiple ambulances, firefighters and police were at the scene. It added, “It’s understood only two cars were involved.” That wording is qualified reporting, not an independently confirmed crash-investigation finding.
Is the freeway still restricted?

What the report does not establish
- Whether anyone was injured.
- What caused the collision or who was involved.
- The exact time the crash occurred.
- How long the lane restrictions lasted or when the incident cleared.

Separately from the crash, the Western Australian Government’s Manning Road interchange project page says a southbound Manning Road on-ramp and a new southbound freeway lane from the Canning Highway on-ramp to the Edgewater Road footbridge in Salter Point are available to road users. The page projects more than 7,000 vehicles using the new ramp daily and says peak-hour travel times may improve by up to five minutes. These are project-page figures, not crash data or measurements of the crash’s effects.
