Kia’s PV5 WKNDR is an electric adventure-van concept, not a production camper you can buy. First shown at the 2024 SEMA Showcase, it pairs a flexible, modular interior with off-road enhancements, onboard energy generation and a sheltered external storage feature called Gear Head. Kia has not published a complete set of specifications for the concept, so its range, battery, price and trail capability remain unconfirmed.
What is Kia’s PV5 WKNDR?
The WKNDR is Kia’s concept for an electric van aimed at off-road camping and adventure travel. Kia introduced it at the 2024 SEMA Showcase as part of its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) family. The concept emphasizes adaptable space and functions that can be customized for different uses, rather than presenting a finalized camper layout. Kia’s SEMA announcement describes its flexible interior, off-road enhancements and onboard energy generation.
Kia’s PV5 concept and platform page also presents the WKNDR as an off-road camper concept with a modular interior. That framing signals the kind of use Kia is exploring; it does not make the WKNDR a confirmed production model.
What are the WKNDR’s standout features?
Modular interior
Kia describes the WKNDR’s interior as adaptable, with space and functions that can be customized. The company has not published a detailed cabin specification establishing exact layouts, dimensions or included camping equipment. The central idea is reconfigurability, not a confirmed list of production-ready fittings.

Gear Head storage
Kia calls its sheltered external equipment-storage feature “Gear Head.” It is intended to hold gear outside the vehicle when it is stationary, adding a place for equipment without treating the feature as ordinary in-cabin storage. Kia’s official WKNDR page describes the feature and its off-board use.
Off-road enhancements and onboard energy generation
Kia associates the concept with off-road enhancements and onboard energy generation, but the public descriptions do not provide the measurements needed to judge what those claims mean in practice. There is no confirmed WKNDR ground-clearance figure, battery capacity, driving range, charging specification or quantified off-road performance in the cited materials.

Is the Kia PV5 WKNDR going into production?
Kia’s official material presents the WKNDR as a concept, not a vehicle available to purchase. The sources do not establish that this particular design will enter production, or when it might do so. In 2025, Kia reported that the WKNDR received the “Best of the Best” distinction at the Red Dot Award: Design Concept. That is design recognition; it is not confirmation of a production decision or a performance rating. Kia’s award announcement identifies the distinction.
How is the WKNDR different from the production Kia PV5?
The WKNDR is a concept built around adventure-camper ideas; Kia’s production PV5 is the related platform context. Kia says the production PV5 is based on E-GMP.S and supports multiple body types through a modular platform. Its listed configurations are Passenger, Cargo, Chassis Cab and Light Camper, and Kia says parts of the body can be reconfigured through its Flexible Body System. These are production-PV5 platform claims, not confirmed specifications or equipment for the WKNDR. Kia’s global PBV page describes the platform and body types.

Does the WKNDR have a rooftop tent?
Kia’s rooftop-tent example belongs to a different concept: the EV9 ADVNTR. Kia says that SUV concept has a custom roof rack designed to carry bespoke roof-mounted tents, but that does not establish rooftop-tent compatibility for the WKNDR or the production PV5. Kia’s 2026 account of PV5 modularity quotes automotive journalist Jack Scarlett: “For me, it’s all about one thing: modularity.” The comment refers to the broader PV5 modularity story, not a promise that the WKNDR itself will reach production.
