AWD and Terrain Mode give it a broader fit for drivers who value traction options, but the published combined estimate is six MPG lower than the FWD version.

Those Sorento figures are trim- and drivetrain-specific. Verify the seating configuration and EPA label for the exact model you are shopping for; a three-row layout is useful only if it accommodates your passengers and cargo in practice.

Do Kia Niro and Sportage hybrids need to be plugged in?
No. The conventional Niro Hybrid and Sportage Hybrid are HEVs: they do not need an external plug, and Kia says regenerative braking recharges the hybrid battery. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are separate vehicles designed for buyers who can charge and want plug-in operation. Do not treat a Sportage or Sorento PHEV as the same configuration as the conventional hybrid in this comparison; confirm the exact powertrain and model-page specifications.
