Kia unveiled the 2026 EV4 sedan in New York on April 16, 2025, but the reveal did not mean the car was available to buy. Kia initially planned U.S. sales for the first quarter of 2026; on October 30, 2025, a Kia spokesperson told InsideEVs the release was “delayed until further notice.” The sources available as of October 8, 2026, do not establish a new U.S. launch date.
What happened to the Kia EV4’s U.S. launch?
Kia presented the EV4 at the New York International Auto Show as an all-electric compact sedan and its first global EV sedan. Its April 2025 announcement said U.S. sales were planned for the first quarter of 2026. That schedule was later changed: InsideEVs reported on October 30, 2025 that a Kia spokesperson said, “However, as market conditions for EVs have changed, the release of the upcoming EV4 electric sedan will be delayed until further notice.” The statement gives no replacement date and does not say the EV4 is permanently canceled.
Kia’s U.S. EV lineup page did not list the EV4 in the page snapshot reviewed for this article. That indicates it was not listed there at that time, but does not settle Kia’s future plans.
What trims and specifications did Kia announce?
Kia’s U.S. debut announcement described three expected trims—Light, Wind, and GT-Line—and two battery sizes. The figures below are manufacturer-announced specifications, not results from an independent test.

The range figures are Kia America’s preliminary estimates from 2025, not official EPA ratings. Kia did not provide a GT-Line range estimate in its release. Actual range can vary with weather, roads and traffic, driving habits, maintenance, options, cargo, and battery age. Kia said the EV4 would be produced at its Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in South Korea. Kia America’s April 16, 2025 announcement is the source for the specifications and estimates.
How long does the EV4 take to charge?
Kia estimated a DC fast charge from 10% to 80% would take 29 minutes with the 58.3 kWh battery or 31 minutes with the 81.4 kWh battery. These are Kia’s estimates, not independent charging-test results. The announcement identified a standard NACS charging port.
Kia also cautioned that frequent DC fast charging can negatively affect battery performance and durability, and recommended minimizing its use. The stated times do not specify a charger’s power or charging conditions, so they should not be treated as a guarantee for every charging session.

What design, cabin, and features did Kia describe?
Kia called the EV4’s styling “Opposites United,” highlighting a low nose, fastback roofline, long-tail silhouette, and vertical lighting. The announced wheel sizes differ by trim: Light and Wind were shown with 17-inch aero wheels, while GT-Line was described with 19-inch spoke-type wheels.

Kia described nearly 30 inches of combined display area: two 12.3-inch displays and a separate 5-inch climate display.
Kia said Highway Driving Assist would be standard and that other driver-assistance features would be available. These systems do not replace attentive driving; Kia warns that they may not detect every object or work in all conditions.

Does the EV4 support vehicle-to-load power?
Kia said the EV4’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability can power compatible external devices such as laptops, lighting, and smaller electronics. The capability requires separately sold additional equipment, and Kia cautions that it may not work with every device. The U.S. debut announcement did not identify the accessory’s model or confirm its U.S. availability.
What is still unknown about the U.S. EV4?
The debut announcement established a proposed configuration, but not the terms of a U.S. sale. It did not provide a U.S. price, an official EPA range rating, or a new launch date after the delay. With U.S. availability unresolved, the announced specifications are useful for understanding Kia’s original plan, not for treating the EV4 as a currently orderable car.

Kia America COO and EVP Steven Center described the EV4 as an option for customers seeking a “more practical and affordable” electric vehicle with an advanced in-car experience. That was Kia’s positioning at the reveal, not a confirmed price or independent assessment of affordability.
