Kia UK lists up to 388 miles WLTP combined for one specific version: the 81.4 kWh hatchback with 17-inch wheels. Kia’s U.S. announcement gave different, manufacturer-estimated ranges for its planned U.S. models. The available figures do not establish a current, like-for-like EV4 versus Tesla Model 3 comparison.
What does the Kia EV4’s 390-mile range claim mean?
It refers to Kia UK’s maximum listed range of 388 miles, rounded to roughly 390. That figure is WLTP combined—not a U.S. EPA rating or an independently measured real-world result—and applies to the 81.4 kWh front-wheel-drive hatchback on 17-inch wheels. Kia says specifications can vary by market and may change. Kia UK’s EV4 page and its specification table distinguish the versions rather than assigning one range to every EV4.

What range did Kia announce for the U.S. EV4?
In its April 16, 2025 U.S. debut announcement, Kia estimated 235 miles for the 58.3 kWh Light and 330 miles for the 81.4 kWh Wind and GT-Line. Those are Kia estimates from that announcement, not EPA ratings or road-test results. The release said Kia expected a U.S. launch in early 2026 and sales in the first quarter of that year; that dated plan alone does not confirm current retail availability, inventory, pricing or EPA certification. Kia America’s U.S. debut announcement is the source for those estimates and plans.

Do not compare the UK 388-mile WLTP figure directly with a U.S. EPA figure. Test cycles and configurations differ, and the available sources do not establish a current U.S. EPA rating for the EV4.
How does the EV4 compare with the Tesla Model 3?
The EV4 is positioned as a potential rival, but a meaningful numerical head-to-head is not established here: there are no current, same-market Tesla Model 3 figures to compare with the Kia’s price, range, charging, or equipment. Range figures should only be compared when they refer to current models in the same market and identify the test cycle, trim, battery and relevant wheel configuration. The available information also does not establish current U.S. EV4 retail price or sale status.

For a buying comparison, check the current Kia and Tesla listings for the market where you plan to purchase. Compare the following before drawing a conclusion:
- Price and incentives for the exact trim, including whether any advertised incentive applies to your location or purchase date.
- Official range on the same test-cycle basis, with battery, trim and wheel size identified.
- Charging connector, access to compatible public chargers, and charging times under comparable conditions.
- Body style, cargo capacity and standard or optional equipment.
- Local availability and warranty terms.
What are the EV4’s body styles and charging figures?
Kia UK lists the EV4 as a five-door hatchback and a four-door fastback. Its specification table gives 435 litres of luggage capacity for the hatchback and 490 litres for the fastback. Kia America’s 2025 U.S. debut announcement discussed a sedan; body-style availability should therefore be checked for the buyer’s market.

U.S.-announced charging and drivetrain details
For the U.S.-announced versions, Kia specified front-wheel drive, a front-mounted 150 kW motor, a 400V E-GMP platform and a built-in NACS port. Kia estimated 10–80% DC charging in 29 minutes for the 58.3 kWh battery and 31 minutes for the 81.4 kWh battery. These are manufacturer estimates from its U.S. announcement, not independently verified results.
UK charging times depend on charger power
Kia UK’s table lists 10–80% DC charging times of 29 and 31 minutes at 127 kW, depending on battery size, and 55 and 79 minutes at 50 kW. Charger power matters: those times are not interchangeable. The same UK table lists 150 kW maximum motor output and 283 Nm torque for both battery configurations.
