What is the Kawasaki ZX-6R recall?
NHTSA campaign 25V376 concerns certain 2024–2025 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R motorcycles. Kawasaki’s Part 573 report, submitted June 4, 2025, identifies 17,792 potentially involved motorcycles across specified variants. That is the potential campaign population, not a count of bikes confirmed defective or a determination that every ZX-6R from those years is included.
The report names certain ZX636J/K variants, including ZX-6R, KRT Edition, 40th Anniversary Edition ABS, and ABS versions. Use the VIN-specific check described below rather than relying on a model-year or trim-name match.

Can you ride a ZX-6R before the recall repair?
No—not if the motorcycle is affected and the authorized repair has not been completed. Kawasaki’s recall report explicitly tells owners not to ride the covered motorcycles until an authorized repair is complete. Do not ride the bike to a dealership; contact Kawasaki or an authorized dealer for instructions on arranging service and moving the motorcycle safely.
How to check whether your ZX-6R is recalled
- Find the motorcycle’s VIN. Use the VIN on the motorcycle or its registration documents, taking care to enter all characters accurately.
- Contact Kawasaki or an authorized Kawasaki dealer. Ask for a VIN-specific check of NHTSA campaign 25V376 and whether the recall repair is recorded as complete.
- Confirm the next step before moving the motorcycle. If the campaign applies and the repair is incomplete, follow the dealer’s instructions for service and transport; do not ride it.
- Keep confirmation of the repair. If you are buying a used ZX-6R, ask the seller for recall-service documentation and have a dealer verify the VIN-specific status rather than treating a seller’s assurance or visible mark as proof.
The campaign notices describe the recall at the vehicle-population level; they do not establish an individual motorcycle’s eligibility or repair status. They also do not confirm current parts or appointment availability, which Kawasaki or a dealer must verify.

What does the authorized recall repair involve?
Kawasaki’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report describes dealer inspection of the #5 metal crankshaft bushing on eligible motorcycles already in operation. The repair depends on what the inspection finds:

Kawasaki says inspected and repaired motorcycles receive a white mark on the left side of the crankcase. Treat that as a detail to discuss with a dealer, not a substitute for VIN verification and repair records. The report describes an authorized recall remedy, not an owner DIY procedure.

What the dates and production change mean
NHTSA’s acknowledgment is dated June 10, 2025, and Kawasaki’s report was submitted June 4, 2025. The acknowledgment said the remedy was under development at that point; it is an earlier status snapshot, not proof of the current remedy status. Kawasaki’s later-filed report describes the repair above.
Kawasaki’s report says proper crankshaft-bolt torque was used in manufacturing from May 2025. That production change does not by itself establish whether an individual bike is part of the campaign or whether its recall repair is complete. The VIN check remains the reliable way to resolve those questions.
