Kawasaki dates the development of the Ninja H2 and closed-course Ninja H2R to 2015, making 2025 their ten-year calendar milestone. The name covers two distinct machines: the road-equipped H2 and the track-only H2R. Kawasaki’s official material describes their engineering and specifications, but does not establish a governed speed record or comparable ranking that would prove the H2 is “the world’s fastest superbike.”
Why Kawasaki built the H2 family
Kawasaki’s ambition was to deliver exceptional acceleration through a motorcycle and engine developed together. The company says the project drew on expertise across Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group, including aerospace, gas turbines and robotics. These are Kawasaki’s descriptions of its development approach, not independent performance findings.
At the center is a 998cc inline-four paired with a mechanically driven centrifugal supercharger designed in-house. Kawasaki’s corporate history calls the 2015 H2 and H2R the first mass-produced large motorcycles to use a fully in-house-designed engine of this type. The engineering account also covers a trellis frame, aerodynamic devices and combustion work intended to address abnormal combustion. Kawasaki’s explanation is that these choices supported the intended performance, not that they establish a universal speed ranking.

Kawasaki’s 2015 feature describes the H2R’s supercharger as delivering 200 liters of air at 100 m/s at 300 PS. Those are manufacturer-published technical figures, not independently verified measurements. How the family grew beyond the H2 and H2R
In 2018, Kawasaki added the Ninja H2 SX, extending the supercharged concept toward greater daily usability. The company’s technical review presents it as a more practical branch of the family, rather than simply another version of the H2R’s closed-course brief. From the 2015 milestone to the announced 2027 return
- 2015: Kawasaki says it developed the H2 and H2R. Its April feature framed the H2R as a closed-course project for the Ninja’s 30th anniversary.
- 2018: The H2 SX broadened the family with a more daily-usable direction.
- September 16, 2026: Kawasaki Motors Europe announced the Ninja H2’s return for 2027 and said the H2R would remain order-only and track-only. The 2015 date marks the development and launch era cited by Kawasaki, not a single universal first-delivery date. Availability, price, compliance and exact specifications vary by territory and model year.

Does “world’s fastest superbike” hold up?
It works as headline language, not as a substantiated ranking in the official sources cited here. Kawasaki’s 2019 review describes the H2R concept around a stability target above 300 km/h, but that is a design target—not a measured top-speed record. Without a verified record and comparable test conditions, it is more accurate to describe the H2 and H2R as Kawasaki’s supercharged performance motorcycles than to claim either is definitively the world’s fastest superbike.
