What is the Karlmann King?
The King is a coachbuilt luxury vehicle designed by Chinese company IAT. Auto Express reported in 2018 that a team in Europe built it; ABC News reported in 2019 that it used an F-550 pickup chassis and transmission and was hand-assembled in Italy. Is the Karlmann King based on a Ford F-550?
Yes. Contemporary reporting identifies the F-550 as the platform or donor chassis. That does not mean every F-550 specification applies to the King: the vehicle is extensively customized, and its reported powertrain figures come from media accounts of the King itself.

What engine and performance does the Karlmann King have?
Auto Express and Top Gear described a 6.8-liter V10, six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The published output figures do not fully agree: Auto Express and Top Gear gave about 395 bhp, while ABC News reported 392 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque. These are historical media specifications, not a verified current specification sheet; horsepower and bhp are different measurement conventions, so the numbers should not be averaged. ABC News reported a top speed of 87 mph and a weight of 10,580 pounds in 2019. Auto Express reported about 4.5 tonnes unarmored and 6,000 kg with optional armoring in 2018. Those weights refer to different reported configurations and should not be treated as interchangeable or as independently verified figures.

What is inside the Karlmann King?
The cabin is presented as a bespoke commission rather than a fixed, universally equipped interior. ABC News listed options including a safe, 4K televisions, wet bar, karaoke machine, PlayStation 4, satellite-phone connection, GPS tracker, massage seats, refrigerator and coffee machine. Sales director Michael Nothdurft told ABC News, “These SUVs are designed to be really unique,” and, “Each one can be customized.” The listed features are options reported by the outlet, not proof that every vehicle includes them.
How much does a Karlmann King cost?
Published prices differ substantially by outlet, date and currency. They are historical reports, not a current asking price, and the reporting does not explain whether the differences reflect markets, specifications or options.

Current production, inventory and availability are not established by the cited reports. ABC News said four had been sold as of its May 2019 article. It also quoted Nothdurft saying an average build took 12 months and the vehicles were handmade; the same article reported 6,000 to 8,000 hours of assembly labor per vehicle. Auto Express said fewer than a dozen were expected in 2018. These dated statements do not establish final production totals or present-day stock.
Accordingly, “world’s most expensive SUV” should be read as the framing used in 2018 coverage, not a current market-wide finding. The available reporting does not establish a present-day price ranking, current authorized servicing, or the vehicle’s legal status in any particular jurisdiction.
