The biggest documented update to the KTM 390 Duke arrived with the 2024 model, which KTM described as a complete redesign. It brought a new 398.7 cc engine, a revised chassis, adjustable suspension and updated rider technology. KTM’s 2025 Australia material says the gearbox and optimized cylinder head introduced in 2024 carried over; KTM Japan’s announcement highlighted a black seat color change. That is a substantial update followed by a largely carryover model year—not evidence that the 2025 bike received a new mechanical overhaul or is objectively better than every earlier Duke.
What changed with the 2024 KTM 390 Duke?
KTM North America described the 2024 lineup as a complete redesign, citing new engines, an all-new chassis concept and new styling. The main documented changes combine mechanical revisions with adjustable hardware and updated electronics.
New 398.7 cc engine
The redesign introduced a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder LC4c engine. KTM’s 2025 Australia specifications list displacement as 398.7 cm³, output as 45 PS and maximum torque as 39 Nm. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independent test results. The engine’s displacement and output are useful points of comparison with an older Duke, but they do not by themselves establish how the bike performs in real-world riding.
Revised frame and swingarm
KTM describes a two-piece frame arrangement: a steel trellis main frame paired with a die-cast aluminum subframe, plus a curved, lightweight swingarm. These are structural changes to the bike’s chassis concept. KTM’s product descriptions do not, on their own, establish a particular improvement in handling, comfort or durability.

Adjustable suspension
KTM specifies a 43 mm WP APEX open-cartridge front fork with adjustment and a rear shock adjustable for rebound and preload. Adjustment gives a rider or technician ways to tailor the suspension setup; it does not guarantee a better result for every rider or road. Australia’s 2025 specification page lists 150 mm of travel at both ends.
Rider aids and display
KTM’s 2024 Ireland product page describes STREET and RAIN ride modes, a 5-inch TFT display with a TRACK screen, and launch control. KTM says the TRACK screen enlarges the rev counter and displays a lap timer, selected gear and preferred rider-aid settings. Its launch-control description says the system holds the engine at 7,000 rpm with wide-open throttle while the rider waits to release the clutch. Those details are KTM’s descriptions, not independently measured performance findings.

KTM’s North American launch release also describes selectable Supermoto ABS, smartphone connectivity and an optional Quickshifter+. Equipment can depend on market, model specification and whether an item is optional, so check the local bike’s equipment list rather than assuming every feature is standard on every 390 Duke.
What is different on the 2025 model?
The available official material supports a restrained answer: the core mechanical updates introduced for 2024 continued into 2025. KTM Australia says the updated gearbox and optimized cylinder head are the same updates released in 2024. KTM Japan’s MY2025 announcement identifies a black seat color as its model change. The documented information does not support describing 2025 as a new engine or chassis generation.

The Australia and Japan pages are regional references, not interchangeable specification sheets. For operation, maintenance or fitment, use the owner’s manual for the exact variant and market. KTM’s 2025 manual is dated 27 August 2025 and warns that its information was current at publication, that minor design differences may exist, and that specifications are non-binding and may change or be adapted to local conditions.
Maintenance and accessories: verify the exact fit
KTM Australia’s specification page names Motorex Formula 4T 15W/50 as engine oil. Treat that as a reference for the listed Australian model, not a universal instruction for every 390 Duke. Before buying oil, parts or accessories, check the owner’s manual and confirm the required grade, specification and fitment for the motorcycle’s exact year and market. KTM Australia’s 2025 model page also provides a PowerParts section, but a catalog listing alone does not establish fitment for every variant.
