A viral post claims Kanye West previewed a $1.2 million “Yeezy Cybertruck.” The vehicle is real, but the story is not: it is United Nude’s Lo-Res Car, an experimental electric design with no verified connection to Kanye, Yeezy, or Tesla. Its documented auction history points to a 2021 sale of approximately $111,111—not $1.2 million.
A viral post claims Kanye West previewed a $1.2 million “Yeezy Cybertruck”—a limited electric car restricted to three U.S. examples. The claim is misleading. The angular black vehicle in the footage is the Lo-Res Car, an experimental electric vehicle created by design brand United Nude. There is no verified evidence that it was designed, owned, or sold by Kanye West, Yeezy, or Tesla.
The $1.2 million figure also does not match the documented auction history identified in reporting. One Lo-Res Car sold through Bring a Trailer in 2021 for approximately $111,111, a substantial six-figure price but nowhere near $1.2 million.
The viral “Yeezy Cybertruck” was actually United Nude’s Lo-Res Car
The post used footage showing a highly unusual, black, faceted vehicle near the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The museum setting made the story look credible: this was clearly a real automotive object, not an ordinary computer-generated celebrity concept.

But the celebrity connection was the problem. The vehicle has been identified as the Lo-Res Car, a design project from United Nude, the footwear and design brand associated with founder and creative director Rem D. Koolhaas. It predates the viral claim and was not presented as a Tesla Cybertruck or a Kanye-designed vehicle.
United Nude reportedly created four promotional examples. That documented production detail should not be confused with the viral post’s unsupported statement that three “Yeezy” cars existed in the United States.
Why it looks like a futuristic Lamborghini
The Lo-Res Car is best understood as a design experiment built around the silhouette of the Lamborghini Countach. United Nude began with the recognizable wedge-shaped profile and repeatedly reduced its three-dimensional resolution. Instead of smooth bodywork, the result uses large geometric facets, giving the car the appearance of a low-polygon digital model brought into the physical world.
That approach explains the Cybertruck comparison. Both vehicles use a deliberately angular exterior, but visual similarity does not establish a collaboration or shared ownership. The Lo-Res Car is a separate United Nude project, not an early Yeezy Cybertruck and not a Tesla product.

It represents the car that inspired the Lo-Res design—not a replica of the Lo-Res Car.

Is the Lo-Res Car really electric?
Yes, but its specifications place it firmly in the experimental, low-speed vehicle category rather than alongside modern road-going electric cars.
- Motor: a single rear-mounted electric motor rated at approximately 5 kilowatts.
- Top speed: about 30 mph, or roughly 48–50 km/h.
- Seating: two seats arranged in tandem, one behind the other.
- Entry: much of the upper body opens in a clamshell-style arrangement to reveal the cabin.
- Body: dark translucent or polycarbonate panels form the faceted shell.
- Road use: coverage describes the vehicle as not street legal.
Some reports also note the absence of ordinary equipment such as conventional mirrors and seatbelts in the described vehicle. Those limitations matter: being powered by an electric motor does not make the Lo-Res Car equivalent to a certified passenger EV, nor does it mean it is suitable for normal public-road use.
What was the car built to do?
Performance was not the central objective. The Lo-Res Car turns an iconic automotive shape into a moving sculpture. Its low-power electric drivetrain gives the object enough propulsion to function as a vehicle, but the design, proportions, entry mechanism, and unusual seating are the point.
That makes comparisons with production cars misleading. A Tesla Cybertruck is engineered and marketed as a road-going vehicle. The Lo-Res Car was conceived as a limited experimental and promotional design object. Its approximately 30-mph top speed and reported lack of street-legal equipment reinforce that distinction.
Did it sell for $1.2 million?
There is no documented evidence in the available reporting of a $1.2 million Lo-Res Car sale. The viral number appears in the post’s caption or on-screen text, where it is attached to the alleged Yeezy vehicle.

The more defensible figure comes from a 2021 Bring a Trailer auction. Reporting places the result at just over $100,000, with one account identifying the final price as $111,111. That is still a remarkable result for a tiny, experimental electric design, but it is approximately one-tenth of the viral $1.2 million claim.
It is also important to distinguish a sale price from an asking price, estimate, or social-media caption. Nothing in the available evidence supports writing that Kanye West was selling the car for $1.2 million.
What does the Petersen Automotive Museum have to do with it?
The Petersen Automotive Museum, located at 6060 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, is visible in the circulating footage and has been associated with the Lo-Res Car in automotive coverage. That recognizable setting likely helped the false celebrity story spread: viewers saw a real-looking vehicle in a legitimate automotive environment and accepted the caption’s explanation.
However, the museum’s currently reviewed institutional information does not confirm that this specific Lo-Res Car remains on display. It is therefore more accurate to say that the car appeared in footage connected with the museum or has been associated with it—not that it is currently exhibited there.

The catch is not that a $1.2 million Kanye EV is secretly difficult to buy. The catch is that the headline combines a real vehicle with an unverified celebrity attribution and an unsupported price.

The real story is more unusual in its own way: United Nude created a functioning, low-speed electric design object by reducing the Lamborghini Countach’s wedge form into a faceted shell. It has tandem seats, clamshell entry, translucent body panels, and enough electric power to move—but it is not a Yeezy product, not a Tesla Cybertruck, and not a conventional street-legal car.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Kanye West make the $1.2 million electric car?
No. The vehicle in the viral footage is United Nude’s Lo-Res Car. No verified evidence connects it to Kanye West, Yeezy, or Tesla.
How much did the Lo-Res Car sell for?
The documented auction history cited in reporting points to a 2021 Bring a Trailer sale of approximately $111,111. The $1.2 million figure came from the viral post’s caption or on-screen claim.
Is the Lo-Res Car street legal?
It is an experimental low-speed electric vehicle with a roughly 5-kilowatt rear motor and an approximately 30-mph top speed. Reports describe it as not street legal, so it is not equivalent to a normal road-going EV.
What inspired the Lo-Res Car’s design?
The design is a low-resolution interpretation of the Lamborghini Countach’s recognizable wedge profile. Its angular shape is why people compared it with the Tesla Cybertruck.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Kanye West did not launch or sell the vehicle shown in the viral post. It is United Nude’s Lo-Res Car, a limited experimental electric design inspired by the Lamborghini Countach. Its documented 2021 auction result was approximately $111,111—not $1.2 million—and the car should not be treated as a Tesla, Yeezy product, or street-legal modern EV.
