The Joondalup Festival of Motoring’s November 2023 event was postponed shortly before it was due to begin because of a nearby bushfire and forecast extreme weather. It returned on May 4–5, 2024, in Joondalup city centre, where the City of Joondalup later reported 140 participants making four runs on the 2.2 km city sprint course.
Why the November 2023 event was postponed
The event had been scheduled to start on Friday evening and continue through Sunday. PerthNow reported that organizers announced the postponement on Thursday, November 23, with a little over a day to go. The decision followed the Mariginiup bushfire in Perth’s northern suburbs and a forecast of extreme weather. The planned program included a 2.2 km route and 120 track-ready cars, according to PerthNow’s November 23, 2023 report.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob later praised the decision, saying organizers postponed “out of respect of those affected by those terrible fires,” as quoted in PerthNow’s April 27, 2024 report.
When and where the festival returned
The rescheduled Tyrepower Joondalup Festival of Motoring took place on May 4–5, 2024, in Joondalup city centre. Event director Justin Hunt said organizers had been struck by the public support for postponing and looked forward to staging a motoring-themed program on the replacement dates. The revised program also added the JFOM Trash or Treasure Car Jumble Sale, according to PerthNow.
