PerthNow reported total damage of $50,000. At the time of its 4 January report, police wanted to speak with three male teenagers who might have information about the fire; that request did not mean they had been accused of causing it.
What happened at the Wangara dealership?
Authorities were alerted at about 6:30pm on Monday, 1 January 2024, to a fire at the John Hughes dealership on Prindiville Drive, near Berriman Drive, in Wangara. PerthNow reported that the fire damaged a brick service building and a Suzuki Swift on display. The article said an arson squad examined the scene on Tuesday, 2 January.
John Hughes Used Cars Wangara sales manager Gary Hill told PerthNow the Swift was parked under an undercroft close to the building and was destroyed. Hill described the building as abandoned and not in use; those descriptions were his account, rather than findings from an independent inspection.
What did the reported $50,000 damage include?
PerthNow put the total damage at $50,000. Hill estimated the dealership-owned Suzuki Swift was worth about $20,000. The report did not itemize the remaining damage, so the $50,000 figure should be understood as a reported overall estimate—not the car’s value or a detailed repair bill. These figures were reported estimates, not an independently audited loss assessment.

The report did not say the teenagers were suspects, nor did it establish that they caused the fire. The appeal is a contemporaneous detail from January 2024; it does not show that police are still seeking them in 2026.
