DeLorean, is leading development of the Model-JZD, a supercar project by her nonprofit, DeLorean Next Generation (DNG Motors). DNG says the project is underway in Detroit and will bring 15 Greater Detroit Area students together with engineers to build its first full-scale model. The organization has not announced a production car for sale, a price, final specifications or a customer delivery schedule.
What is the Model-JZD?
The Model-JZD is DNG Motors’ inaugural supercar project. DNG describes its development as taking place in the Motor City and says students will join engineers in building the first full-scale model. The project is at a model-build stage according to the organization’s Model-JZD project page; that is not the same as a confirmed production vehicle available to buy.
How students are involved
DNG says 15 students from the Greater Detroit Area will participate in the first full-scale model build, alongside engineers and using facilities offered by partners. The organization frames student learning and mentorship as part of the vehicle’s design and build process, not as a separate activity. These are plans described by DNG, rather than a report of a completed program or independently verified student outcome.
DNG’s Origins page states its mission as: “EVERY KID SHOULD HAVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE THEIR DREAM.” The nonprofit also invites companies and schools to inquire about sponsoring its student program.

Who is Kat DeLorean?
DNG identifies Kat DeLorean as the nonprofit’s founder. Her father, John Z. DeLorean, was a Detroit-born automotive executive and the creator of the DeLorean Motor Company. The Detroit Historical Society says he designed the Pontiac GTO, introduced in 1964, left General Motors in 1973 and created the company that produced the DMC-12, released in 1981. That history provides context for the family name, but it does not establish a connection between the DMC-12 and the Model-JZD’s engineering or production.
Is the Model-JZD the same as the DeLorean Alpha5?
No. DNG Motors’ Model-JZD and the DeLorean Motor Company’s Alpha5 are projects associated with separate organizations. DeLorean Motor Company’s own site also discusses its Omega concept. The Alpha5 and Omega should not be treated as Model-JZD variants, and the DMC-12 is a distinct earlier production car. DeLorean Motor Company’s media archive also lists an Alpha5 Hot Wheels die-cast; that collectible is not the Model-JZD.

What has—and has not—been announced?
DNG’s project and organization pages describe the Model-JZD’s development and education mission, but do not state a final powertrain specification, price, production timetable, customer delivery date or customer orders. The word “supercar” is DNG’s description of the project, not confirmation of performance figures or a retail offering. For now, the clearest confirmed status is the organization’s plan to develop the car and build its first full-scale model.
