John Deere has added two all-electric utility vehicles to its Gator lineup: the two-seat Gator GX Electric and four-seat Gator GX Crew Electric. Both are compact, 19.5-mph property-maintenance vehicles with a 51.2-volt, 5.376-kWh lithium-ion battery, onboard charging from a standard grounded 120-volt outlet, and no available four-wheel drive.
The two models serve different priorities. The standard GX is the more practical choice for carrying materials in its dedicated 800-pound tilting cargo box. The GX Crew is designed for moving up to four people and can convert its rear seating area into additional hauling space. Neither should be confused with a road car or a full-size, four-wheel-drive trail UTV.

The Crew trades some dedicated cargo-box utility for a second passenger row. Its rear seats can be reconfigured to provide additional storage or hauling space. The detailed specifications list an 850-pound total vehicle payload capacity, while the rear hauling platform is separately rated for 250 pounds.
Those numbers describe different things. The 850-pound figure is the vehicle’s published total payload specification; the 250-pound figure applies specifically to the rear platform configuration. They should not be added together or treated as interchangeable.
The Crew also provides between-seat storage, under-seat trays, an under-hood bin, and several dash compartments. It is therefore better suited to crews, property owners, or facilities staff who need to transport people and equipment in the same trip.

The vehicles do have knobby 23 x 10.5-12 tires, 5.9 inches of ground clearance, and suspension hardware intended for utility use. But those features do not turn them into all-wheel-drive machines. Their strongest use case is property transportation and light-duty work in areas where compact size, maneuverability, and quiet operation are more important than maximum off-road traction.

Size, suspension, and maneuverability
Both GX models are 53.5 inches wide and have 5.9 inches of ground clearance. John Deere says their dimensions and tight turning characteristics are intended to help them work in rough terrain, tight quarters, and some indoor or environmentally sensitive settings where a larger or louder vehicle would be inconvenient.
