Former President Joe Biden brought his green 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible to the Audrain Newport Concours in Newport, Rhode Island, on October 4, 2026. Road & Track reported that the car received the event’s Spirit of Audrain Award.
What happened at the Audrain Concours
Biden made a surprise appearance at Fort Adams State Park during the 2026 Audrain Newport Concours and Motor Week, according to Road & Track, which published its report on October 5. The event’s official schedule lists the Concours at Fort Adams on Sunday, October 4.
Road & Track says Biden attended with his grandson Robert Hunter Biden II and was reportedly invited by Jay Leno. In a statement reproduced by the magazine from Biden’s Instagram post, Biden wrote: “Enjoyed spending Sunday in Newport with my grandson Hunter, my friend Jay, and some incredible vehicles during Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week. The green 1967 Corvette from Wilmington was looking especially nice. I appreciate Nick Schorsch and his team for having me and for hosting such a great event.”
Why the car received the Spirit of Audrain Award
Road & Track reported that the Corvette took home the Spirit of Audrain Award, quoting the organizers’ Facebook post. The statement said Biden “surprised us on the field at Fort Adams State Park” and identified the car as his 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible.

The award fits the event’s emphasis: Audrain describes its Concours as “not a trial of performance, but of elegance.” Its classes span cars from 1900 to 1980, placing Biden’s 1967 Corvette among vehicles judged in a historical and design context rather than in a speed contest.

Chevrolet’s Corvette history page identifies 1963–1967 as the Sting Ray period and calls the 1967 427/435 the generation’s performance peak. Chevrolet’s period 1967 vehicle-information kit lists both 327-cubic-inch and several 427-cubic-inch V-8 options across the model range. Those broader model facts do not mean Biden’s car had a 427; Road & Track identifies it as a 327 car.

Road & Track reports that Biden’s father gave him the Corvette as a wedding gift and that Biden had previously said he reached 132 mph in it. These are attributed accounts, not independently verified provenance records or a documented speed test of the car.
