There are two current models. The JetCycle Max is lighter and entirely human-powered. The E-JetCycle adds a 200-watt electric-assist system, a wider trimaran-style platform, and side floats intended to make boarding and riding easier. That difference matters more than the shared top-speed figure: the Max is the purer pedal-powered machine, while the E-JetCycle is designed to reduce effort and increase stability.

It is not an ordinary bicycle fitted with pontoons, and it is not an electric surfboard. The rider sits inside a kayak-like cockpit rather than high above the water on a narrow bicycle frame. Pedaling turns a propeller through a mechanical drivetrain, and the hydrofoils generate lift as the craft gathers speed.
Once the water flowing over the foils produces enough lift, the hull rises higher out of the water. Less hull remains immersed, which reduces wetted area and drag. The rider then gets the unusual sensation of moving above the surface rather than pushing a conventional boat through it.
JetCycle’s design also attempts to make hydrofoiling less intimidating than bicycle-shaped foil craft. The recumbent position keeps the rider low, while the hull provides a boat-like platform. Nevertheless, it remains a specialized watercraft: it needs suitable water, a learning period, and more logistical planning than a normal bicycle or paddleboard.

The JetCycle Max is the original single-seat model. It has no motor or battery; all propulsion comes from the rider’s legs.
JetCycle says the Max uses a patented, 100% mechanical transmission inside the keel. Rather than driving a conventional fixed-pitch marine propeller, the drivetrain turns a patented variable-pitch propeller developed with the University of Savoie Mont Blanc. The variable pitch is intended to keep the propeller effective across the craft’s operating speed range.
The rider uses two control handles: one for steering and another for managing the foil incidence, or flight height. The Max’s purpose-designed foils and low seating position are intended to help the craft take off at relatively low speed, but reaching that point still requires sustained physical effort.
JetCycle Max specifications
| Specification | JetCycle Max |
|---|---|
| Seats | 1 |
| Power | Human-powered |
| Length | 3.40 m |
| Width | 0.80 m |
| Height | 1.20 m |
| Total mass | 35 kg |
| Front foil | 1.00 m wingspan; 1,700 cm2 area |
| Rear foil | 2.30 m wingspan; 3,330 cm2 area |

| Flying cruising speed | 12 km/h |
| Maximum flying speed | 20 km/h |
| Turning radius | 2 m |
The Max’s 35 kg mass is relatively low for a hydrofoil watercraft, but it is not light in the way a conventional bicycle is. New Atlas reports that JetCycle recommends two people carry it to and from the water. Its 3.40-metre length and 75-cm draft also mean that launching requires a suitable shoreline, dock, ramp, or other planned access point.
E-JetCycle: electric assistance and a wider platform
The E-JetCycle keeps the recumbent cockpit and hydrofoil concept but adds pedal-assist propulsion and two side floats. Those floats give it a trimaran configuration and make the craft substantially wider than the Max.
The connecting arms between the hull and floats also serve as boarding and swimming platforms. That should make getting on and off less awkward than it is on a narrow single-hull foil craft. The extra width and assistance are particularly relevant for rental businesses, experience centers, and riders who are more interested in an accessible water experience than in supplying every watt themselves.
The electric system is not a replacement for the pedals. JetCycle describes the E-JetCycle as pedal-assisted, with selectable assistance levels and an adjustable pedal box. The motor helps the rider reach and maintain foiling speed, reducing the physical demand of the take-off phase and longer sessions.

The three-hour battery figure is a manufacturer claim and should be treated as a maximum or “up to” estimate rather than a guaranteed ride time. Assistance level, rider weight, water conditions, temperature, battery age, and the amount of time spent foiling will affect actual endurance.

JetCycle Max vs. E-JetCycle
| Consideration | JetCycle Max | E-JetCycle |
|---|---|---|
| Propulsion | 100% human-powered | Pedal-assisted electric propulsion |
| Mass | 35 kg | 55 kg |
| Width | 0.80 m | 2.30 m |
| Platform | Single hull | Trimaran with side floats |
| Take-off threshold | 9 km/h | 5 knots, about 10 km/h |
| Claimed top speed | 20 km/h | 20 km/h |
| Best fit | Experienced, fitness-oriented riders seeking a mechanical experience | Riders and operators prioritizing assistance, boarding access, and stability |
Neither model is universally “better.” The Max is 20 kg lighter and much narrower, making storage and transport less demanding than with the E-JetCycle. It also avoids battery charging and electric-system maintenance. In exchange, the rider must provide all propulsion and manage the physical demands of getting the craft onto the foils.
The E-JetCycle weighs more and occupies considerably more space, but the motor and floats address two of the Max’s practical barriers: effort and balance. That is an inference from the published dimensions, mass, propulsion systems, and hull layouts—not the result of an independent comparative test.
How the hydrofoil takes off
At rest, the hull and foils sit in the water. Pedaling turns the propeller, which moves the craft forward. As speed increases, water flowing over the submerged front and rear wings creates hydrodynamic lift.
At the take-off threshold, lift becomes sufficient to raise much of the hull clear of the surface. With less hull in the water, drag falls, allowing the craft to maintain speed more efficiently. The rider controls direction with the steering handle and adjusts flight height with the incidence control.
This does not mean the craft can fly at any speed or in any conditions. It must first reach its take-off speed, and a sudden loss of speed can cause the hull to settle back onto the water. The foils are also underwater structures that require adequate depth and freedom from submerged obstacles.
Where can you use a JetCycle?
JetCycle positions the E-JetCycle for lakes, lagoons, calm seas, private use, and professional watersports operations. Its commercial materials specifically mention experience centers, brokers, dealers, premium-client experiences, sports training, and seasonal diversification for rental businesses.
Calm water is the key qualification. JetCycle’s event materials emphasize suitable weather and relatively smooth conditions. These craft should not be portrayed as all-weather boats or rough-water, open-ocean machines without specific guidance from the manufacturer and local operator.
Before riding, a prospective owner or operator should confirm:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Whether hydrofoils or powered recreational craft are permitted on the intended body of water.
- Local registration, licensing, insurance, and safety-equipment requirements.
- Whether the launch area provides enough depth for a 75-cm draft and clearance for the foils.
- How the craft will be transported, stored, rinsed, charged, and secured.
- What weather and wave conditions the manufacturer or local operator considers acceptable.
- Whether instruction is included before independent operation.
A properly rated personal flotation device for water sports is a sensible preparation item, but no generic PFD should be described as JetCycle-approved without confirmation. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and local boating rules.
Price and buying process
JetCycle’s current English product pages list the following manufacturer prices:
- JetCycle Max: €9,990 excluding VAT.
- E-JetCycle: €19,990 excluding VAT, customs duties, and transportation.
These are not verified U.S. delivered prices. The final cost can depend on destination, taxes, import treatment, freight, dealer or operator involvement, and any included equipment or support. JetCycle presents the products through a quote-and-contact process rather than a conventional online checkout, so buyers should request a current written quotation.
A useful JetCycle quote request should ask about delivered price, lead time, warranty, training, spare foils and propeller parts, battery support for the E-JetCycle, recommended launch equipment, service arrangements, and the laws applying to the intended location.

How to try an E-JetCycle in the United States
A current U.S.-facing listing advertises a one-hour E-JetCycle demo ride at Pensacola Beach, Florida. The listed starting price is $105 per person including taxes and fees. The experience reportedly includes an orientation and a test ride on the 200-watt E-JetCycle, with Radical Rides identified as the provider.
This is a demonstration for prospective riders rather than evidence of broad U.S. retail distribution. The price, availability, reviews, booking terms, and operating dates can change, so check the live listing immediately before making plans. A demonstration is particularly valuable here because published specifications cannot show how demanding take-off feels, how easy boarding is for a particular rider, or how the craft behaves in the local water conditions.
Who is the JetCycle for?
The Max makes the most sense for a rider who:
- Specifically wants a human-powered hydrofoil experience.
- Is comfortable supplying sustained leg power.
- Has suitable calm water and a practical way to move a 35-kg, 3.40-m craft.
- Values mechanical simplicity over assisted convenience.
The E-JetCycle is a more plausible choice for someone who:
- Wants to reduce the effort required to reach and maintain foiling speed.
- Places a high value on side floats and easier boarding.
- Can accommodate a 55-kg craft that is 2.30 m wide.
- Is considering repeated guest use, instruction, or a premium watersports experience.
Neither is a sensible impulse purchase based only on the novelty of the video footage. The decisive questions are whether the rider has legal and physical access to calm water, how the craft will be transported and stored, and whether the price is justified by actual expected use.
The bottom line
JetCycle turns the familiar idea of pedaling a bicycle into a low-speed hydrofoil boat. The Max is the lighter, fully human-powered version, with a 35-kg single hull and a claimed 20-km/h maximum flying speed. The E-JetCycle costs substantially more and weighs 55 kg, but adds a 200-watt motor, up to three hours of stated battery life, and a broad trimaran platform intended to improve accessibility.
The headline is that both can soar above the water. The practical story is the trade-off: effort versus assistance, portability versus stability, and novelty versus the realities of calm-water access, transport, safety, and a five-figure purchase price. For U.S. readers, the advertised Pensacola Beach demonstration may be the most useful next step—but verify the listing before traveling.
