Its closing joke is that a Jeep Wrangler 4xe makes him happy “even though my name is Ford.” The line plays on Ford’s surname—and, by implication, the automaker—while the ad’s stated message is to choose what makes you happy.
What happens in Jeep’s “Owner’s Manual” ad?
Jeep premiered the film during Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025; the company published its official release the following day. The two-minute spot is directed by James Mangold and produced by Minted Content in collaboration with Stellantis. Jeep’s official campaign release describes it as an intimate “owner manifesto.”
Ford speaks directly to the viewer about choosing what brings happiness. He names friends, family and work, then adds the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The ad’s closing passage, as transcribed in the official release, is: “Choose what makes you happy. My friends, my family, my work make me happy. This Jeep (Wrangler 4xe) makes me happy…even though my name is Ford. That’s my owner’s manual. Get out there. Write your own.”
Is the “Ford” line a joke about the automaker?
The words are Ford’s surname, but their placement beside the Jeep vehicle makes the automaker reference part of the punchline. The Associated Press also characterized the line as a joke. That supports reading it as a playful nod to the Jeep–Ford rivalry, not as an explicit attack on a specific Ford model.

In particular, the ad’s official closing passage does not name the Ford Bronco. Calling it a direct diss at the Bronco goes beyond what the campaign text establishes; viewers may make that connection, but it is an interpretation.
Why does the commercial sound so reflective?
The quiet tone was deliberate. Stellantis Global Chief Marketing Officer Olivier Francois said the team wanted an intimate film that would stand apart from the kind of Big Game commercial viewers might expect. Harrison Ford likewise said he agreed to the spot because of its straightforward script about life, describing it as a quiet talk rather than a performance built around reintroducing himself or recalling his roles. Both statements appeared in Jeep’s February 10, 2025, release.

That approach differed from much of the broader 2025 Super Bowl ad slate. AP described many of the event’s ads as leaning on easy laughs and nostalgia, though that was not true of every spot. Northwestern University marketing professor Tim Calkins told AP, “Safe advertising isn’t the advertising you notice or remember.”
