The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator fire-risk story has moved beyond an investigation: FCA US announced a U.S. recall on June 9, 2026, covering 1,076,999 certain 2021–2025 model-year vehicles. NHTSA says the power-steering pump wiring may overheat combustible material and cause a fire, even when the vehicle is off. If your Jeep is affected, park it outdoors and away from buildings and other vehicles until it is repaired. Mopar says the free dealer remedy is now available.
What is the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator fire recall?
The defect involves wiring for the electric hydraulic power-steering pump. NHTSA says a possible electrical connection issue may cause the wiring to overheat combustible materials, creating a fire risk even while the vehicle is turned off. Mopar describes the overheating as possible in rare circumstances. The recall is identified as NHTSA campaign 26V363.
NHTSA’s June 9, 2026 consumer alert says the issue is likely linked to 51 fires and one injury. Mopar separately reports 72 “potentially related incidents.” Those are differently worded counts from different sources and should not be treated as the same measure.
Which Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators are included?
The current U.S. recall population is 1,076,999 certain 2021–2025 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, according to NHTSA. It covers vehicles with gas, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Model year or powertrain alone cannot establish whether a particular Jeep is included; check its VIN.

Is my Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator part of the fire recall?
Use the vehicle identification number to confirm eligibility and whether the remedy remains outstanding. A model-year match is not enough to determine that a specific vehicle is affected.
How do I check my Jeep recall by VIN?
- Find the 17-character VIN on the vehicle or its registration documents.
- Enter it in NHTSA’s recall lookup or Mopar’s recall lookup.
- If the lookup shows this recall as unrepaired, follow the notice and contact an authorized Jeep dealer to arrange service.
NHTSA says its VIN tool can show unrepaired recalls. For help, call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or FCA customer service at 800-853-1403.

Is this the Wrangler 4xe battery recall?
No. This recall concerns power-steering pump wiring. Mopar says it is separate from the high-voltage battery recalls for Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles. Do not assume the two recalls have the same defect or remedy; check each vehicle’s VIN and recall notices separately.

Why does the recall figure differ from the earlier headline?
The 780,000 figure belongs to the earlier investigation-era framing in the headline. The later June 2026 recall announcement covers 1,076,999 U.S. vehicles. NHTSA’s announcement and campaign filing establish the current recall population; the exact historical investigation-era count behind the headline is not established by those current records.
For vehicle owners, the useful figure is the result of the VIN lookup—not either population count. NHTSA explains recall and investigation resources at its recalls and investigations resource page.
