It also lists Selec-Terrain modes—Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud, and Rock—and says Selec-Speed helps manage steep inclines and declines. Jeep’s 2021 capability page describes Trailhawk’s Active Drive Lock as including a rear locker, low range, neutral mode, and Rock Mode. Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road: torque-vectoring AWD
Toyota says the 2024 RAV4 TRD Off-Road has standard Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD. Toyota describes the system as able to send up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear and distribute torque between the left and right rear wheels. That is a torque-management approach; it is not the same hardware description as Jeep’s specified low range and locking rear differential. “AWD” and “4WD” should not be treated as interchangeable labels, and these specifications alone do not establish which vehicle performs better in a particular situation. The clearance numbers are close, but that does not make the vehicles equivalent underneath: their traction systems, geometry, tires, and cited underbody equipment differ. Jeep’s brochure lists skid plates and red tow hooks for Trailhawk. Its stated water-fording depth is not a general recommendation to cross water; follow the owner’s manual for the specific vehicle and use conservative water-crossing judgment. The cited 2014 brochure lists skid plates, red tow hooks, Trail Rated status, selectable terrain modes, and Selec-Speed on Trailhawk. “Trail Rated” is Jeep’s own designation and marketing description, not an independent comparative test.
TRD Off-Road equipment
Toyota’s 2023 comparison page lists 18-inch TRD flow-formed wheels, TRD-tuned suspension with trail-ready shocks and struts, and Falken all-terrain tires. On the evidence available, the Jeep’s listed hardware points more explicitly toward slow, obstacle-oriented control, while Toyota’s package combines torque-vectoring AWD, suspension tuning, and all-terrain tires. That distinction is useful for narrowing a choice, but it is not a substitute for a test on the terrain and tires you expect to use.
