The ranking combines regular passenger cars and kei cars sold in Japan; it is not a worldwide ranking or a list of every vehicle type.
Japan’s top 10 passenger-car models by 2025 sales
Nippon.com compiled this combined ranking from data supplied by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association (JLMVMA). Kei cars are marked below. Exact sales totals are available here for the first three models only.

Four of the ten entries are kei models: the N-Box, Spacia, Tanto and Move. In 2024, the top three were the N-Box, Corolla and Yaris. Nippon.com linked the Daihatsu models’ improved positions to production recovering after disruption associated with the company’s certification-testing scandal.
Why this ranking differs from some other Japan sales lists
The ranking includes kei cars alongside other passenger cars. Some Japanese sales tables exclude minicars, so they use a different pool of vehicles and should not be compared as though they were the same ranking. For example, a separate 2025 list excluding minicars places the Yaris first and Corolla second; its totals cannot fill in the missing figures in this combined top ten. Sources and scope
The combined 2025 and 2024 rankings, kei classifications and top-three totals are reported by Nippon.com from JADA and JLMVMA data. Its report was published in 2026: Nippon.com’s English report and Japanese report. The figures refer to domestic sales in Japan during calendar year 2025, not global sales or commercial vehicles.
