Jaguar’s controversial EV relaunch leaked online on December 2, 2024, when unauthorized images of the Type 00 Design Vision Concept appeared ahead of its Miami Art Week presentation. The images showed a huge, low electric GT in vivid colors—but not a finished production vehicle. Jaguar’s production-bound follow-up is the four-door Type 01, which the company says will use three motors and produce more than 1,000PS.
Jaguar’s EV relaunch first leaked on December 2, 2024, when unauthorized images of the Type 00 Design Vision Concept appeared on the Coche Spias forum. The images showed a huge, low electric GT in vivid pink and blue, with an exceptionally long bonnet, a cab-rear profile and styling far removed from the Jaguars that preceded it.

The leak was not a preview of a finished production car. Type 00 was a physical design statement and a preview of Jaguar’s future direction. The production-bound vehicle that followed is called Type 01: a four-door electric GT that Jaguar says will use three motors, produce more than 1,000PS and deliver over 1,300Nm of torque.
That distinction matters. Jaguar’s relaunch became controversial before the car was shown because the company’s “Copy Nothing” campaign appeared to discard its traditional visual identity without explaining what would replace it. The leaked concept then supplied the missing object—but also confirmed that Jaguar was attempting one of the most radical repositionings in the modern luxury-car market.

What actually leaked
WIRED reported that the unauthorized images appeared online ahead of Jaguar’s official presentation at Miami Art Week. They showed the Type 00 Design Vision Concept, a large electric grand tourer with two doors and deliberately theatrical proportions.
- A very long bonnet and low roofline, despite the vehicle being electric.
- A cab-rearward passenger compartment rather than the short-front-end look common among many EVs.
- A broad grille treatment and heavily concealed or visually minimized exterior details.
- Highly unconventional surfacing intended to make the car look more like a design object than a conventional sedan or crossover.
- Bright pink and blue finishes that reinforced the concept’s fashion- and art-led presentation.
The concept also appeared to have no conventional rear windscreen. That suggested camera-based rear visibility, but it was an observation about the concept—not confirmation that the production car would use camera mirrors or the same arrangement in every market.
In other words, the leak revealed Jaguar’s design ambition, not a complete specification sheet. Type 00 was never presented as a customer-ready production model.
Why the leak attracted so much attention
A leaked concept normally generates curiosity. Jaguar’s case was different because the leak followed an identity campaign that had already become a major online story.
In November 2024, Jaguar launched its “Copy Nothing” rebrand. The campaign used brightly dressed models and colorful imagery, but did not show a car or the company’s traditional leaper emblem. Jaguar said it wanted to move away from conventional automotive advertising and reposition itself as a more contemporary luxury brand.
The response was sharply divided. Many commentators mocked the campaign or argued that it did not explain what Jaguar was selling. Others objected to the apparent break with the brand’s heritage, including the long-established leaper badge and the visual language associated with cars such as the E-Type, F-Type and XJ.
The criticism was not only about the advertising. It combined several anxieties:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Rank #2
- A missing product: the launch film presented a lifestyle and an attitude before it presented a vehicle.
- A missing connection to Jaguar: the campaign offered little obvious visual continuity with the company’s previous cars.
- An electric-only future: Jaguar was moving toward a much smaller-volume, luxury-focused EV strategy while its existing lineup was being phased out.
- A customer-base question: traditional Jaguar buyers were being asked to accept a new identity before seeing the finished product.
Some of the online reaction used the word “woke.” That label describes part of the internet argument, but it is not a useful explanation of Jaguar’s business plan. The more defensible interpretation is that Jaguar was trying to move from a relatively mainstream premium automaker toward a smaller-volume, higher-luxury electric brand, using striking design and cultural marketing to create distance from competitors.
Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover defended the strategy and condemned hateful abuse directed at people featured in the campaign. The company’s own description was a radical reimagining of the brand; external coverage documented the confusion and backlash that followed.
Type 00 was a concept, not Jaguar’s new production car
Jaguar’s official material described Type 00 as a Design Vision Concept: a physical expression of the company’s new design philosophy. Its role was to establish the visual direction for the next generation of Jaguars.
The concept was a two-door design exercise. Jaguar’s first reimagined production model is a four-door electric GT built in the United Kingdom on a dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. That means the production car was always expected to differ from the leaked vehicle in body format, engineering and some of its most extreme visual details.

Jaguar also warned that production development could change the concept’s specifications, design, parts and accessories. The long bonnet, unusual rear treatment, camera-based visibility and other dramatic features should therefore be treated as design signals rather than confirmed Type 01 equipment.
From the leaked Type 00 to production-bound Type 01
On May 13, 2026, Jaguar gave the production-bound car its official name: Type 01.
Jaguar says the name deliberately connects the new vehicle to the company’s historic naming tradition:
Rank #3
- Package dimensions (L x W x H): 10.6 cm x 11.6 cm x 24.0 cm
- Package Weight: 360g
- Country of origin: China
- Number of packs: 1
- “Type” links the car to historic Jaguar models and design studies.
- “0” represents electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions.
- “1” identifies it as the first Jaguar of the new generation.
The change from Type 00 to Type 01 is more than a numbering update. Type 00 was the provocative design statement; Type 01 is the attempt to turn that statement into an actual luxury GT that can be engineered, homologated and sold.

| Item | Current information | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Body style | Four-door electric GT | Confirmed by Jaguar’s description of the production-bound model. |
| Development and production | Designed, developed and built in the United Kingdom | Manufacturer-stated positioning; final production arrangements may still be more detailed later. |
| Drivetrain | Tri-motor | Jaguar has announced three electric motors. |
| Power | More than 1,000PS | A Jaguar claim, not an independent dynamometer or road-test result. |
| Torque | More than 1,300Nm | Also a manufacturer claim; market-specific certification details are not yet available. |
| Chassis technology | Intelligent torque vectoring, dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers | Jaguar says these are intended to combine high performance with long-distance comfort. |
| Public prototype activity | Camouflaged prototypes shown around the 2026 Monaco E-Prix | The prototype confirms ongoing development, but not the final appearance or specifications. |
Jaguar has also emphasized a low center of gravity, electric propulsion informed by racing experience and a balance between performance and grand-touring comfort. Those are engineering and positioning claims, not independent test conclusions.
Range and charging: targets, not final results
Jaguar’s official Type 00 material associated the first reimagined production model with targets of up to 770 km under WLTP, 430 miles under the EPA test cycle and up to 200 miles of added range in 15 minutes under the company’s stated estimates.
Those figures should not be presented as a tested Type 01 result. The reviewed material does not establish the final battery capacity, production charging curve, final EPA range or the conditions behind the rapid-charging claim. WLTP and EPA figures also come from different testing systems and should not be treated as interchangeable.
The most accurate description for now is that Jaguar has set ambitious range and charging targets for its first new-generation production GT. Final certification and customer-car testing will determine what the vehicle actually delivers.

When will Jaguar reveal the finished car?
The timing has changed in the company’s public messaging:
- Jaguar’s March 31, 2026 announcement said the GT would be fully revealed in September 2026.
- JLR’s June investor communication later referred more generally to a reveal “later this year.”
- Auto Express subsequently reported that JLR chief commercial officer Lennard Hoornik confirmed an October launch in New York.
As of the latest reporting reference available for this article, August 12, 2026, October in New York was the latest detailed plan. It should not, however, be described as an independently confirmed Jaguar newsroom reveal date unless Jaguar publishes a matching event announcement. The earlier September date remains part of Jaguar’s public timeline, while the later report points to October.

What is still unknown
Jaguar has disclosed the car’s broad mission and some headline engineering figures, but many buying decisions cannot yet be made from the available information.
- Final price and pricing by market.
- Battery capacity and usable battery capacity.
- Final EPA and WLTP range ratings.
- Real-world charging times and the complete charging curve.
- Dimensions, curb weight and cargo capacity.
- Final seating configuration and interior packaging.
- Whether camera-based rear visibility will be legal and offered in every market.
- Production timing and the date customer deliveries will begin.
- Independent acceleration, braking, handling, range and comfort results.
Earlier reports put the car’s price above £100,000 and circulated range estimates. Those numbers should remain labeled as reports or targets, not final specifications. The same caution applies to any leaked image that appears to show a production feature: a concept can preview an idea without carrying it into the homologated vehicle.
The design question: is radical enough to be desirable?
Jaguar’s strategy is not simply to build another electric sedan. The company is attempting to make the car itself a cultural object—something that can stand apart from the increasingly familiar shapes of electric crossovers and streamlined luxury saloons.
That explains the Type 00’s long bonnet and dramatic proportions. Most EVs use their packaging advantages to create short overhangs, open cabins and cab-forward silhouettes. Jaguar instead used the freedom of an electric platform to recreate the visual drama of a long-nose grand tourer, even though the electric drivetrain does not require a large conventional engine bay.
The upside is clear: the car is immediately recognizable and gives the relaunch a visual point of view. The risk is equally clear: a design that works as an art-week statement may be difficult to translate into a comfortable, practical and legally compliant four-door GT.
Type 01 will be the important test. It must preserve enough of Type 00’s distinctiveness to justify the relaunch while making the compromises required by visibility regulations, crash standards, aerodynamics, cooling, manufacturing and everyday use.

It did prove:
- Jaguar was pursuing a much more dramatic design language than its previous lineup suggested.
- The “Copy Nothing” campaign was attached to a real and unusually ambitious product direction.
- The company intended to compete through visual differentiation and luxury positioning rather than volume.
It did not prove:
- That Type 00 would be sold to customers.
- That every visible concept feature would appear on Type 01.
- That Jaguar had finalized the car’s price, range or performance.
- That the leak caused any later change in Jaguar’s sales performance.
Jaguar was already transitioning away from its previous lineup, while product availability, the move to electric vehicles and broader operational disruption affected its business. The available evidence does not establish a clean causal link between the rebrand, the Type 00 leak and later sales figures.

For collectors: what can you actually buy?
Type 00 was not a production vehicle, and the reviewed evidence does not establish that an official Type 00 or Type 01 model is currently available through Amazon. Readers looking for a physical reminder of the story should therefore search for a Jaguar diecast model car or another Jaguar collectible, rather than assuming a listing is an official replica of the leaked concept.
Jaguar also has an official Jaguar Design Icon Model 01 collectible. It is a separate design object and should not be described as a Type 00 likeness unless the product documentation says so. Jaguar’s lifestyle merchandise is another way to explore the brand’s visual identity, but neither category substitutes for the unreleased Type 01.
Bottom line
The Jaguar EV leak mattered because it completed a story that began with an abstract rebrand. “Copy Nothing” promised a break from Jaguar’s past; the leaked Type 00 showed what that break looked like. The result was a striking, divisive electric GT concept rather than a conventional new model.
Jaguar has since moved from Type 00 to the production-bound Type 01, a four-door, tri-motor GT with claimed output above 1,000PS and torque above 1,300Nm. The central question is no longer whether Jaguar can generate attention. It is whether Type 01 can turn that attention into desirability, technical credibility and enough sales at the high end of the electric-car market.
Until the production car is fully revealed and independently tested, the leaked images are best understood as a statement of intent—not a final specification sheet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the leaked Jaguar Type 00 a production car?
No. Type 00 was a two-door Design Vision Concept, not a customer production car. Jaguar’s first production-bound vehicle from the relaunch is the four-door Type 01.
What Type 01 specifications has Jaguar confirmed?
Jaguar has announced a tri-motor drivetrain, more than 1,000PS, over 1,300Nm, intelligent torque vectoring, dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers. Final range, price, battery size and independent performance results remain unavailable.

Jaguar originally announced a September 2026 reveal. Later JLR messaging said “later this year,” while Auto Express reported an October New York launch confirmed by JLR chief commercial officer Lennard Hoornik. October is the latest detailed report in the available research, but it is not presented here as a matching official Jaguar newsroom announcement.
Can I buy a model of the leaked Jaguar EV?
The reviewed evidence does not establish an official Type 00 or Type 01 model currently available on Amazon. A Jaguar diecast model car or Jaguar’s separate Design Icon Model 01 may be relevant collectibles, but neither should be represented as a Type 01 replica without product documentation.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The December 2024 leak exposed Jaguar’s Type 00 design concept, not a finished production EV. Its successor, the four-door Type 01, retains the relaunch’s radical ambition but remains short of final pricing, range, production specifications and independent test results. The latest detailed report points to an October 2026 New York reveal, although Jaguar’s earlier official announcement said September.
