The Jaecoo 7, nicknamed the “Temu Range Rover” in social-media and news coverage, topped the UK’s new-car registration chart in September 2026. It recorded 10,813 registrations, ahead of the Tesla Model 3 and Ford Puma. But the monthly win did not make it the year’s leader: the Puma remained ahead through September.
What is the “Temu Range Rover”?
It is the Jaecoo 7, a China-built SUV from Chery Automobile. The nickname is an informal label used in social-media and news coverage, linked to the vehicle’s styling resemblance to a British luxury SUV and its lower price. It is not an official model name, and the available reporting does not establish a legal finding that the Jaecoo 7 is a counterfeit. The Los Angeles Times describes a reported starting price of around £30,000; that is approximate coverage, not a current dealer quote.

The Jaecoo 7 launched in the UK in January 2025 and is offered as a petrol vehicle or plug-in hybrid, according to The National. The available reporting does not provide enough detail to compare trims or technical specifications.

The National, citing preliminary Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data, reports 10,813 UK registrations for the Jaecoo 7 in September 2026. The Tesla Model 3 followed with 9,929, while the Ford Puma recorded 6,958. These are registration counts, not a head-to-head test or a measure of which vehicle is better for an individual buyer.

The Los Angeles Times also reported that the Jaecoo 7 beat the Kia Sportage that month, but did not give a comparable exact Sportage tally in its coverage. The primary SMMT model-level table was not available in the cited reports, so the precise figures here are attributed to The National’s report of preliminary data.
Why does the headline say “again”?
Contemporary coverage says the Jaecoo 7 first reached the monthly top spot in March 2026, was passed by rivals in subsequent months, then returned to first in September. “Again” means it regained the monthly lead; it does not mean it held the top position continuously.

September is an important UK registration month because new registration plates are released, and March is another key month, the Los Angeles Times notes. A strong result in one month is still a real registration count, but it does not by itself show that the model has become the country’s most popular car over the year.
Is the Ford Puma still the UK’s best-selling car this year?
Yes, through September 2026. The National reports 42,926 Ford Puma registrations year to date, compared with 39,473 for the Jaecoo 7. The Puma’s lead over the Jaecoo was therefore 3,453 registrations despite losing the September monthly comparison.

What the result says about the UK market
The Jaecoo 7’s monthly lead came during a strong month for the wider market. Auto Express reported that UK new-car registrations exceeded 350,000 in September 2026, were up more than 12% year over year, and reached their highest September level since 2017. The National reported that Chinese brands accounted for 23% of UK registrations that month.
Those figures place the Jaecoo 7’s result in the context of rising Chinese-brand presence and a buoyant September, but they do not establish that either trend caused this particular model’s ranking. Cox Automotive insight director Philip Nothard told Auto Express that the growing presence of Chinese manufacturers was increasing competition and consumer choice while putting pressure on established brands, particularly as the industry works toward tougher EV targets. That is market context, not a model-specific explanation.
