Short answer: Super Tech motor oil may be a suitable choice if the exact product meets your vehicle maker’s viscosity and oil-specification requirements. Walmart’s warranty document names Warren Oil Company as manufacturer of the Super Tech automotive fluids covered by that document, but Walmart says suppliers can vary by product and over time. Check the bottle or product documentation for the specific oil you plan to use.
Who makes Super Tech motor oil?
Walmart’s Super Tech Limited Warranty Program identifies Warren Oil Company as the manufacturer of the Super Tech automotive fluids covered by that document. That is evidence about the products within the warranty’s scope—not proof that Warren makes every Super Tech oil or every batch.
Walmart’s Super Tech brand guidance says suppliers may vary by item and over time. For a particular bottle, look at its back label, the product-page specifications, or an available Safety Data Sheet. A label may name a manufacturer or distributor; those terms do not necessarily identify the same party.
Is Super Tech oil any good?
There is no single answer for the entire Super Tech range: oils sold under the brand come in different viscosities and formulations. The practical test is whether the exact oil meets the requirements for your engine. A current Walmart listing for Super Tech Full Synthetic SAE 10W-30, for example, states API SP and ILSAC GF-6A or previous standards. Those claims apply to that listing; they do not show that 10W-30 fits every vehicle or that all Super Tech grades carry the same specifications.

- Formulated for engines with 75,000 miles or more, Valvoline MaxLife High Mileage synthetic blend is formulated with seal conditioners to help prevent oil leaks and reduce oil consumption
- Delivers 20% better wear protection and 15% better sludge defense than industry standards to help prevent engine breakdown
- Extra detergents safeguard against friction, corrosion and deposits to keep high-mileage engines clean
- Advanced friction-fighting additives help maximize performance and improve fuel efficiency
- Provides performance benefits for high mileage, new and re-built engines alike
The Petroleum Quality Institute of America (PQIA) assessed one Super Tech SAE 0W-20 high-mileage full synthetic sample purchased in Edison, New Jersey, on February 13, 2020. Its bottle was labeled API SN PLUS/ILSAC GF-5. PQIA reported that the sample met the listed SAE J300 viscosity grade and that its results were consistent with the listed API service categories. PQIA cautioned: “The test results and PQIA assessment relates ONLY to the sample tested and the tests conducted.” This is useful evidence about that sample, not a brand-wide test or a finding about current bottles.
How to check whether a specific bottle fits your car
- Find the vehicle’s requirements. Check the owner’s manual or the vehicle maker’s service information for the required viscosity, such as 0W-20 or 5W-30, and the required API or ILSAC category or automaker approval.
- Match the exact product. Compare those requirements with the specifications on the bottle and product documentation. Do not assume a grade is suitable because another Super Tech oil is, or because the bottle says “full synthetic.”
- Check the standards and approvals. Treat API or ILSAC statements as claims for the particular oil you are considering. API 1509 describes the API Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System and the authorization required to display API marks. If your vehicle maker requires a specific approval, verify that the exact oil has it.
- Use the prescribed service interval. Follow the vehicle maker’s oil-change interval and operating guidance. The cited product and sample evidence does not establish that Super Tech oil allows longer intervals.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
- It can identify a documented supplier relationship: Warren Oil Company is named as manufacturer for the automotive fluids covered by Walmart’s warranty document.
- It can provide an example of listed specifications: Walmart’s 10W-30 product listing states API SP and ILSAC GF-6A or previous standards.
- It can report one independent sample assessment: PQIA’s 2020 result applies to one 0W-20 high-mileage full synthetic sample and the tests it conducted.
- It cannot establish a universal ranking: These sources do not demonstrate equivalence to every competing brand, long-term engine life, or performance across all Super Tech formulations and batches.
How to compare oils when more than one meets the manual
Once you have confirmed that an oil satisfies the vehicle’s requirements, compare products on the details that affect your choice:
Rank #2
- 6X better wear protection on critical engine parts than industry standards**
- 1.3X better sludge protection than industry standards*
- 3X Stronger against viscosity breakdown than leading full synthetic^
- Protection for 10,000 miles between oil changes
- Meets or exceeds the following specifications: API SP/SN PLUS/SN | ILSAC GF-6 | GM dexos1 Gen 3 | Meets Ford WSS-M2C947-B1 | Meets Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 |
- Required viscosity: It must match the manual’s permitted grade.
- Service category or approval: Check the API/ILSAC category and any exact automaker approval the vehicle maker calls for.
- Oil type: Compare conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic only where the manual permits a choice.
- Cost for your oil change: Compare the price for the quantity needed for the vehicle, rather than just the price per container.
- Evidence scope: Distinguish a label claim or licensing mark from an independent test of a specific sample.
The cited sources do not provide a current head-to-head engine test or comparable long-term field study that would support ranking Super Tech against other brands.
