Reuters reported on September 8 that Döllner discussed Ducati during a Bloomberg interview about Volkswagen Group’s portfolio review. After a September 25 meeting involving Audi CFO Jürgen Rittersberger and Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali, Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said Volkswagen had no plans at that moment to sell Ducati. That later account is the clearest dated statement of Volkswagen’s position in the reporting cited here. “No plans at the moment” and “no decision at this stage” are time-bound statements, not a guarantee that the group will never consider a sale.
Is Ducati formally for sale, or is a buyer confirmed?
The available reporting establishes that Ducati was discussed as part of a portfolio evaluation. It does not establish that Volkswagen formally launched a sale, accepted an offer, set a timetable, or chose a buyer.

Autocar India reported on October 6 that Italian investor Patritalia had expressed interest in Ducati, and quoted Domenicali saying no final decision had been made. What the review means for Ducati’s plans
The September 25 ministry account said Ducati’s investment and product plans would continue as planned. Separately, a Volkswagen Group 2025 annual-report search-result extract listed several Ducati models as planned for 2026, including the Panigale V4 R, Diavel V4 RS, Monster V2, Hypermotard V2, Multistrada V4 RS, Multistrada V4 Rally and Desert X. Why Ducati is in the conversation
Döllner framed the discussion as part of Volkswagen Group’s portfolio discipline and broader review. The cited statements do not identify financial distress or a Ducati-specific need as a reason for a possible sale, so neither should be treated as an established rationale.

What to watch for next
A meaningful change in status would require a new, attributable statement or documented transaction step—not simply another report that Ducati is under review or that a potential investor is interested. Watch for Volkswagen, Audi, Ducati or Italian officials to confirm a formal sale process, an accepted offer, a named buyer or ownership terms. Until then, the best-supported reading is that Ducati was evaluated within the group’s portfolio review, while no sale decision had been reported in the statements described above.
