It is a memorable stunt, not a proven fitness routine: a Life OD crew converted a Honda Civic to run on pedal power and rode it to McDonald’s. Nerdist reported that the car moved at about 2 mph, but the story provides no calorie count or evidence that the ride was an effective workout.
What is the pedal-powered Honda Civic?
The title refers to a project by Life OD, whose hosts converted a Honda Civic into a bicycle-powered vehicle and pedaled it on a trip to McDonald’s. Nerdist covered the project on June 22, 2021. Read Nerdist’s account.
The report describes a chain transferring the riders’ pedaling energy into a pulley system that turns a car wheel. It gives the broad mechanism, not a complete build specification: it does not detail the conversion’s full design or establish the vehicle’s power output.
How fast did it go?
Nerdist described the McDonald’s trip as moving at about 2 mph. That is the speed reported in the article, not an independently verified measurement or a controlled test result. The account does not state the testing conditions.

Does the ride prove it is a good workout?
No. The story supplies no measurement of calories burned, exercise intensity, or workout effectiveness, and it does not compare the ride with another form of exercise. Pedaling a vehicle is the premise of the project; it is not evidence for a particular fitness benefit. The “best workout” claim works as a joke about earning a fast-food stop, not as a health conclusion.
Is this the same as McDonald’s exercise bikes?
No. A separate viral video, reported by Entrepreneur on December 21, 2021, showed customers apparently using exercise bikes while eating at a McDonald’s location in China. Those were stationary bikes at a restaurant, not the Life OD Civic. Entrepreneur reported 34.2 million views and 2.2 million likes at the time; those are historical counts, not current totals. What can—and can’t—we conclude about the Civic?
The available account establishes the project’s identity, its pedal-to-chain-and-pulley concept, and the approximate speed Nerdist reported. It does not establish calories burned, road-safety certification, or whether the conversion was suitable for ordinary traffic.
