A strange yellow vehicle photographed near the Warner Bros. studio lot in September 2024 was plausibly linked to Tesla’s planned Robotaxi reveal—but no source reviewed confirmed it was a Cybercab. Tesla later unveiled the Cybercab at Warner Bros. in October 2024; that matching venue does not establish that the earlier vehicle was the same car.
What was the strange yellow vehicle?
In September 2024, a nighttime photo circulated online showing a small, unusual-looking yellow vehicle on what appeared to be the Warner Bros. studio lot in Los Angeles, followed by another Tesla. Contemporary reports described the vehicle as a compact, two-door car that appeared to be camouflaged.
The original Reddit poster reportedly claimed to be a Warner Bros. employee, but the post and account were later deleted, according to Futurism’s September 15, 2024 report and Electrek’s September 13, 2024 report. The image was distant and taken at night, limiting what could be identified from its appearance.
Was it Tesla’s Cybercab?
It could have been a Cybercab or a related test vehicle, but the identification was speculation, not a verified Tesla announcement. The connection seemed plausible because of the vehicle’s shape and setting, but neither the image nor the reporting established its make or model.

The timing also contributed to the theory. On August 30, 2024, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, that Tesla was targeting an October 10 Robotaxi reveal at Warner Bros. That reported plan made a vehicle spotted there noteworthy, but location and timing alone cannot identify it.
At the time, observer Matthew Donegan-Ryan posted, “Woah Tesla is testing this heavily camouflaged Cybercab robotaxi on the Warner Brothers lot.” He was not speaking for Tesla, so the post is an assertion about the photo, not confirmation of what the vehicle was.

What did Tesla reveal at Warner Bros. later?
Tesla unveiled its Cybercab at the Warner Bros. studio in October 2024, as reported by the Associated Press. That confirms the venue of the later reveal, not the identity of the yellow vehicle photographed the month before. The available reports do not provide a direct link between the two.
Why early concept images do not settle it
Images in Walter Isaacson’s biography of Elon Musk were described as Robotaxi concepts, including an early design. Electrek cautioned that those images could show very preliminary concepts with little connection to a later vehicle. A resemblance—or lack of resemblance—to an early concept is therefore not a reliable way to identify the yellow car.

What the evidence can—and cannot—establish
| Question | What the reports support |
|---|---|
| Was a yellow vehicle photographed at what appeared to be the Warner Bros. lot? | Yes. The sighting was described in contemporaneous reporting based on a social-media photo. |
| Was it a Cybercab or a Tesla test mule? | Possible, but not verified. No reviewed source provides a direct identification. |
| Did Tesla later reveal a Cybercab at Warner Bros.? | Yes. The Associated Press reported the October 2024 unveiling. |
| Does the later reveal prove the earlier vehicle was the Cybercab? | No. The matching venue and timing are circumstantial, not proof of identity. |
The most accurate description is an unidentified yellow vehicle photographed at a location tied to Tesla’s anticipated Robotaxi event. It may have been connected to the project, but the available evidence does not establish that it was the Cybercab Tesla later unveiled.
