Is the KTM 690 Duke Coming Back? What We Know About the MT-07 and Trident 660 Rivals

A twin-cylinder KTM Duke prototype has sparked 690 Duke comeback speculation, but KTM has not confirmed a road-going model. Here is what’s known—and what the MT-07 and Trident 660 offer now.

No road-going KTM 690 Duke return has been confirmed by KTM as of October 8, 2026. A report of a twin-cylinder Duke prototype has prompted speculation about a new middleweight model, but the model name, specifications, launch timing and availability remain unconfirmed. KTM’s announced 2027 790 Duke is a separate motorcycle—not confirmation of a 690 Duke revival.

What is known about a KTM 690 Duke return?

BikeWale reported on May 2, 2026, that a middleweight KTM Duke prototype with a twin-cylinder engine had been spotted testing. The report suggested the platform might replace KTM’s existing 690 single-cylinder range and speculated about a possible global launch in 2027. Those details are reporting and inference, not specifications or a launch plan confirmed by KTM. BikeWale’s prototype report does not establish that the motorcycle will be called a 690 Duke.

KTM’s January 2026 announcement covered its 2026 Duke family and mentioned 2027 models without confirming a 690 Duke. In June 2026, KTM did officially describe a 2027 790 Duke for the UK market; that is a distinct model. The company’s September 2025 production update also did not announce a 690 Duke. KTM’s range announcement, the 2027 790 Duke announcement and the production update provide no official confirmation of a road-going 690 Duke return.

How do the confirmed MT-07 and Trident 660 compare?

The Yamaha MT-07 and Triumph Trident 660 are confirmed current-model-year roadsters, so their published figures offer a real comparison. There is no official KTM 690 Duke specification to put alongside them yet.

The Yamaha figures come from Yamaha’s US 2026 MT-07 page. Triumph announced a higher-performance 2026 Trident 660 with revised chassis and rear suspension, a slip-and-assist clutch and updated bodywork. Its UK announcement gives output in metric units, while its US announcement uses US customary units; the two sets of figures above are market-specific statements, not values to combine or directly compare without unit conversion. See Triumph’s US announcement and Triumph’s UK announcement.

What can riders conclude about the rivalry?

The Trident and MT-07 are established options with manufacturer-published details; a returning 690 Duke is not yet an announced buying choice. Until KTM confirms a model and releases comparable specifications, it is not possible to make a factual three-way comparison of engine output, weight, dimensions, equipment, pricing or availability. Nor does the prototype report establish how a future Duke would ride or whether it would directly target either rival.
