It can be—but the purchase price alone does not make a first-generation Porsche Panamera a bargain. A limited U.S. auction-data sample puts the 970-generation car’s recent market estimate at $19,250, but the right value depends on the individual car’s condition, service history, mileage, recall status and inspection findings.
What does a first-generation Panamera cost in 2026?
Porsche says the Panamera launched in 2009, and the second generation began in 2016, placing the first-generation cars in the 970 era. Porsche’s model history provides that generation context.
For the U.S. market, Marque’s 2026 page estimates a recent 970 value of $19,250. It also reports 26 verified auction sales since 2020, with a median sale price of $23,403 across that longer sample. Marque’s market data is useful as a directional signal, not a guaranteed asking price or a comprehensive survey of dealer and private listings. The sample is limited, and it does not establish a like-for-like value by trim, mileage, condition or repair history.
When is a low asking price actually a bargain?
Depreciation can make a first-generation Panamera look like an affordable way into a large, fast luxury car. But a low purchase price and a low-cost ownership experience are different things. The available market data does not establish typical annual maintenance costs, repair frequency or a model-wide failure rate.

Compare individual cars on the factors that affect their actual value:
- Price relative to mileage, condition and equipment.
- Documented maintenance and repair history, including invoices where available.
- Recall status and evidence that applicable campaigns were completed.
- Findings from an independent Porsche-specialist inspection, including estimates for identified work.
- Your willingness to manage the servicing and repair uncertainty of an older, complex luxury car.
Do not assume a particular model year or trim is the best buy without evidence about the specific car. The available figures do not support a reliable trim-by-trim or year-by-year ranking.

Which recall should buyers check?
Recall 17V-368: camshaft-controller fasteners
NHTSA recall 17V-368 covers specified Panamera variants from model years 2010–2012—not every first-generation car. The recall notice says camshaft controllers may loosen inside the engine and that dealers will replace the fastening screws at no charge. NHTSA’s recall record identifies the affected vehicles and remedy.
The manufacturer’s notice explains that the defect can trigger a warning light, engine noise and vibration, and potentially an engine stall, which may increase crash risk. The manufacturer’s safety notice describes those symptoms and risks. Do not treat the replacement screws as a routine upgrade or assume the recall applies to every 970.

Check the vehicle, not just its model year
- Look up the car’s VIN with NHTSA’s VIN recall lookup to check for open recalls.
- Ask the seller for documentation that any applicable recall campaign was completed.
- If the VIN shows an open safety recall, contact a Porsche dealer to confirm the campaign and remedy before purchase.
What to do before buying
- Request records. Ask for maintenance and repair documentation, not only a verbal account of the car’s history.
- Arrange a specialist inspection. Have a Porsche specialist assess the specific vehicle and provide an itemized report.
- Get estimates for identified work. Use the inspection findings to understand immediate needs before negotiating; there is no single reliable repair budget established for all first-generation Panameras.
- Compare like with like. Weigh asking prices against mileage, condition, documented service, inspection results and recall status rather than relying on a broad market estimate alone.
