No—the U.S.-market 2026 Nissan Frontier is not confirmed as a hybrid. Nissan’s U.S. materials list it with a 3.8-liter gasoline V6 and a 9-speed automatic. The Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid is a separate vehicle first revealed for China; Nissan later announced plans to export it to Latin America, naming Mexico as its first market. Nissan has not confirmed U.S. availability for the Frontier Pro PHEV.
What Nissan confirmed for the 2026 U.S. Frontier
Nissan North America’s August 18, 2025 model-year announcement identifies the 2026 U.S. Frontier as a gasoline-powered pickup, not a hybrid. It lists S, SV, PRO-X and PRO-4X grades with a 3.8-liter V6 and 9-speed automatic transmission. The engine is rated at 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, and Nissan gives maximum towing capacity as up to 7,150 pounds, depending on configuration and equipment. Nissan’s 2026 Frontier press kit has the model details.
The 2026 brochure also lists fuel economy by drivetrain and grade: 4×2 models are estimated at 19 mpg city, 24 highway and 21 combined; 4×4 models at 17/21/19; and the PRO-4X at 16/20/18. These are Nissan USA brochure estimates, not figures for the Frontier Pro PHEV. See the 2026 U.S. Frontier brochure.
Nissan announced a starting MSRP of $32,150 for the U.S. 2026 Frontier in its 2025 model-year announcement. That figure excludes destination and handling, taxes, title, license and options; it is an announced MSRP, not a guaranteed dealer price or current transaction price. Nissan’s press kit provides the stated pricing terms.

What the Frontier Pro PHEV is—and where Nissan plans to sell it
The Frontier Pro PHEV is a different pickup, not a hybrid powertrain option announced for the U.S. Frontier. Nissan premiered it at Auto Shanghai on April 23, 2025, describing it as a plug-in hybrid for China. Nissan said production and sales in China would begin before the end of that year, with exports to other markets to follow and recipient markets to be announced later. Nissan Global’s reveal announcement identifies the vehicle and its original market.
On April 14, 2026, Nissan announced that Frontier Pro PHEV sales would begin in Latin America during 2026, with Mexico first and other regions to follow. The announcement did not name the United States. It also said technical specifications would be confirmed by market, with the powertrain and specification analysis for each region still in development. That leaves export-market details open; China-market figures should not be treated as final specifications for Mexico or another destination. The Frontier Pro reveal also said its battery could provide up to 6 kW of vehicle-to-load output through a V2L port for household devices. That is a Nissan figure for the China-market reveal vehicle, not a confirmed specification for every export version. Nissan’s Frontier Pro reveal gives the original context.
What the 135 km electric-range claim means
The often-repeated 135 km figure belongs to Nissan’s China-market Frontier Pro PHEV reveal. Nissan called it an “up to” target under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) and said it was subject to homologation. It is not a U.S. EPA-certified range, and Nissan’s later export announcement said technical details would be confirmed by market. It should not be used as a promised range for a Latin American version or as evidence of a U.S. model.

Does Nissan plan a U.S. Frontier hybrid?
The announcements establish no U.S. launch for the Frontier Pro PHEV; they also do not establish that it will never come to the United States. Nissan’s FY2026 corporate presentation identifies the Rogue—not the Frontier—as the planned U.S. application for hybrid e-POWER technology, while saying China exports would start with the N7 and Frontier Pro. That supports keeping the models and markets distinct, but it is not a permanent ruling out of a future U.S. Frontier hybrid. What to check before treating a Frontier as a hybrid
- Check the model name. “Frontier Pro PHEV” refers to the plug-in hybrid revealed for China and announced for Latin American export. The 2026 U.S. Frontier is listed separately with a gasoline V6.
- Check the country and model-year documentation. Nissan says Frontier Pro technical specifications will be confirmed by market, so China figures do not settle the equipment or range of an export version.
- Look for an explicit U.S. announcement. The cited Nissan releases do not confirm the Frontier Pro PHEV for the U.S.; the 2026 U.S. materials describe a gasoline V6 truck.
